The 4 Items Joan Juliet Buck Won't Buy to Save Money

Joan Juliet Buck
Already gave up: Starbucks. Deli sandwiches. Eleven-dollar canned Spanish Tuna. Six-dollar blueberries.
Trying to give up: Bottled water. Storage units. Cabs. (why won’t buses go where I want them to?) But, weirdly, I now crave new clothes.
Cannot give up: Blow-drys at Dramatics. Massage. Health club. iTunes Downloads. Theater tickets. Books. Tipping.

I’m not sure about your financial situation… but if you are doing pretty well, you can spread the wealth without being decedent. Don’t give up your Starbucks coffee and deli sandwich, think of the jobs those enterprises provide! This way you can still enjoy those items and feel good about contributing to the economy. But the $11 tuna is probably in bad taste during these economic times, so perhaps you could buy several CANS of tuna for $11 and donate them to a local food pantry.

Good for you Joan. It’s important to keep tipping. People who are lucky enough to have jobs sometimes really depend on tips - and it makes you feel good!

I’ll never stop tipping. 20% rounded up! Makes all the difference in the world to your second visit to any restaurant. It’s just a good practice for everybody.
