44 Hours Later, Mumbai Still Under Terrorist Attack, 140+ Reported Killed (Update)

Bloodshed at Mumbai’s Jewish Center and Two Luxury Hotels
By The Staff at wowOwow.com

In a story that continues to unfold, terrorists in Mumbai continue to hold the Taj Hotel, the Oberoi Hotel and the Chabad House. CNN is reporting this hour that at least 146 are reportedly dead, with hundreds more injured.

Today, explosions and gunfire continued outside the three locations taken over by terrorist gunmen on Wednesday. Hostages were taken at all three locations. Indian commandos have made some headway into the targeted buildings, and freed 93 people from the Oberoi Hotel. They also found two dozen bodies among the ruined hallways. Dozens of other bodies have been discovered in the other besieged buildings, where commandos are currently locked in gun battle.

Crowds outside the locations await word on friends and families injured or held hostage inside.

Indian television, which is calling this terrorist attack the "War on Mumbai" is reporting that the Chabad House attackers have been subdued by authorities.

Update: At least five of the eight hostages have been found dead at the Jewish Center taken by militants Wednesday. Indian commandos stormed the building a few hours ago, but retreated after an explosion rocked the building. Two of the bodies are said to be American nationals, and an Israeli diplomat told Reuters news agency that five bodies have been found. An Indian official kept his statement brief, but it’s no less grim, "Apparently the hostages did not remain alive." The militants are still engaged in gun battles at the two luxury hotels. We’ll keep you updated as the scene unfolds.

MSNBC reported about 30 minutes ago, that the terrorist group indeed was based in Pakistan …..cell phones removed from dead terrorists showed phone calls to/from numbers in Pakistan…and there was more….some are saying this only took 6 months to plan….

Even though I came to understand the source of much of the hatred that precipitated 9/11, again I find myself at great odds with these terrible and unwarranted attacks upon innocent civilians.

What is so alarming is that Pakistan and India have been at each other’s throat ever since Pakistan was partitioned after WW2. Now, they are both members of the nuclear club, and every few years they cause a major crisis for the rest of us. This is going to have wide reaching consequences, I fear. Then, you have Kashmir in the north with its own set of problems. This is why I was so incensed with the Ieadup to the Iraqui war because Bush/Cheney kept saying that Iraq had WMD, and Someday may have nuclear capablity, and yet, here we are with India and Pakistan, and they DO have them, and won’t hesitate to use them on each other someday. This is the longest 2 months we have to endure before the Obama diplomatic corps can be put in place to get to work.

i fear that time is passed—-you’re people, as near all Europe, have ‘taken-the-war-path.’ and learned—-‘hard-knocks U’—- i feel,as i wish this world were Amsterdam, this nation—-never being blown flat—-must learn the hard way—-not good for you, anyone—-to expect Obama/Hiilary to reverse this would require they have several clones, with said power—-and Time—-not enough—-perhaps what is needed is a ‘demonstration’ for smaller rogue nations of this nation’s ability to utterly destroy them—-that may ‘prod’ their guvs to ‘clean-house’—-or simply die—-the old ‘offer ya can’t refuse’. Amerika—-a sad solution—-perhaps the only—-

I am so saddened by this demonstration of hatred and evil in the name of God. Do you realize how many people have died on this planet in the name of someone’s God? I find it so disturbing. The basis of ALL religions is kindness, compassion and peace. I will never begin to comprehend the extremists of ALL religions. Anyone who would twist and re-interpret the teachings and then hide behind an extreme doctrine that justifies killing your fellow man is dangerous. And that includes Christians. The basis of the Islamic extremist dogma that may have lead to this atrocity is that there are no innocents. Its a pity that 5 of them were killed. It makes them martyrs when they die and they think that there will be 72 virgins waiting for them in heaven for their grand sacrifice. A friend of mine who lives in Asia was warned recently to stay away from the resort areas because there were going to be huge repercussions after the execution of the Bali bombers. Not that it was any top secret tip, just good sound advice I guess.

Amelie I agree. Thanks for putting it so well. I am so saddened as I watch these tragic events unfold. There was news that an American man and his 13 year old daughter from Virginia are among the many murdered. They were in India with a meditation group. They went to find peace and truth. I guess peace is not in a “place”, but where truth is.

Also a young Rabbi and his wife were killed, their 2 year old child was saved. They had dual passports of Israel and The United States. It is so senseless and unnecessary. No matter what, in this world, in this day, there are always other choices. Whether they are small choices or large, there are other choices. You have to have the heart and courage to seek them out. My heart is with all of them. Peace and Grace

Frannie, there were CDN’s in the death toll too. And actor on a meditation retreat actually survived being sot three times!!!! But we lost a well-respected Doctor, and a hotel manager at the Taj was a CDN young woman- one of the first ones down. There was also a young man from Vancouver who didn’t answer the door in the night—terrorists with lists of Westerners. He saw the bomb go off out the window, grabbed his stuff, ran through the basement of the hotel, and fled straight to the airport with some cabbie who grabbed him off the street as he was yelling “airport, airport! I was thinking of going to Thailand or Bali for Xmas. Ahem. Uh. Er. Maybe Whistler instead. :)

Amelie Are CDN’s Canadians? I think that is what you mean. I am so sorry. It is so tragic. I am really glad the young man from Vancouver got away. Getting out of India as fast as he did was very smart. I just hope they can maintain calm over there. I think you are right, Whistler sounds good.

there may be no peace-on-earth—-you will be ‘granted-by-Life’, a better deal, meanwhile, if you turn the military-industrial complex from killing to space-faring—-then the only force of salvation, Life, Will ‘make-things-better’ in ways no politico may—-as in ‘Bio-101’—-‘mass extinction on earth IS the Rule, not the exception.’ and Peace is a place,, but never on a planet—-as S=mdT—-simply put—-S (tendency-to-disorder) is The ‘quality-of-mass’—-ya can’t ‘whup’ that—-except for Negative S, shown in the lab—-took 9 years—-but then you have -S=m/dT—-get away from mass—-‘Captain Janeway’—-the old Elizabethan poem sums it—- ‘with a horse of air and a spear of fire to the wilderness i wander by a knight of ghosts and demons i summoned am to tourney ten-leagues beyond the wide world’s end methinks it is no journey—- read that, watching ‘the Challenger’ disaster—-put the puzzle in place—-

(((The basis of ALL religions is kindness, compassion and peace. I will never begin to comprehend the extremists of ALL religions. Anyone who would twist and re-interpret the teachings and then hide behind an extreme doctrine that justifies killing your fellow man is dangerous. And that includes Christians. ))) Exactly how I feel. Oh I know once I post what I am about to say, there will be those who will be very angry with me, and my words, and might even call me names……..but….I literally threw up, as I watched the television, when America invaded Iraq. As a country, we identify ourselves primarily, as Christian. As I have mentioned before, I am the grand-daughter of a minister…my grandfather gave me a red Bible, when I started kindergarten, with instruction that I was to learn to read, with the goal that I read it cover to cover, before I left elementary school, and we would talk about what I read, whenever I wanted. I truly believe that killing people, animals, any living thing, is the most horrendous act, any human could accomplish. We have brains that are high functioning, supposedly—-yet we invaded Iraq, based on lies and propaganda, and thousands of innocent people have died as a result….. So is it that, as Americans, we have the right to invade and terrorize another country? and no other religion does? What makes this group that terrorized Mombai, any different than what we did to Iraq? And if we are truly christian—why do we ignore the 10 commandments? Especially the one that says ‘Thou shall not kill’?

well, ‘The Lancet’ put Iraqi ‘innocent-dead’ at 1,000,000 and counting—-and how many amputees, etc.? ya won’t see those figures here—-was there a chance for Americans to approve a criminal ‘pre-emptive’ war—-no. i wonder if it is illegal to try those responsible for treason? mr. bush makes saddam look as if a ‘nice-guy’—-sure he was a nutz killer—-but Who made him? we did, vs. Iran—-who armed him? we did. so he, deservedly gets hung—-but what of bush? your ‘elected’ Congress? if we do not get ‘Stern’ with a power-hungry, $$$ seeking ‘Republic’? near totally murderous? Rome once ruled, as many others, now dust—- the problem of global terrorism started in D.C.—-whether the genocide of Native Americans, so many others—-what to do? nuke the globe?

i think both Wilson’s past efforts and the current UN show that as not working—-and sure, i’ve found medicinal plants far more effective—-the problem is they can’t be patented, so nada to Big Pharma—-and most are illegal—-gee, i wonder why???????
