50 Sexiest Men Over 50: wowOwow's 2008 50-Over-50 List

They weren’t born yesterday.

Long before Justin Timberlake became a Mouseketeer these 50 men — from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Bill Clinton to Tom Brokaw to name a few — were "bringing sexy back." And they’ve still got it — today maybe more than ever.

What makes the mature man so sexy?

"No sense of desperation," said wowOwow’s Liz Smith.

As for Candice Bergen: "Older men have just always been the sexiest to me. Far more than Leonardo or Brad. I saw Ben Bradley the other night and at 87 he is still one of the most attractive, intelligent, fascinating and sexy men alive."

According to Joan Juliet Buck: "We all know the glossy lure and sad reality of cute men. The dream is a mature man who knows what he likes, knows himself, has seen what life does, but still can laugh and has kept up his hope and is not bitter, who is curious, enterprising and strong."

Joan Ganz Cooney says: "Sexy at any age is a man who makes me laugh and seems a little dangerous."

And according to Cynthia McFadden, there are two necessary ingredients: "Sexy is smart and funny."

The sexiest men in the world, willingly and with a smile on their faces, put out the garbage; mow the lawn; clear the table and wash the dishes (manually or by machine); remember their partner’s birthday, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day (when applicable) and the relevant holidays at the Winter Solstice; and do all those extra little jobs that need doing but without being asked (baking bread, for example, or - for pdp - making Italian sausage). I’ll wager that the smiles on these men’s faces makes them the sexiest guys in the world.

Bill Clinton is very sexy. I’ve heard if you are in the room with him he just zaps you with his energy. He is so intelligent and has a quick, sharp wit and this is the sexiest thing about him.

DeB, Well I just looked at the news and the sexiest icon of them all has died. Paul Newman. What else can I say? For me, there was no other that ever came near him.

He was absolutely gorgeous. All I can think is that he had a great life as far as I can tell. A long term marriage, great career, never seemed to let it go to his head or get between himself and outside interests, a ripe age of 83 (even with all that car racing!), and in the end it seems he went fairly quickly, quietly, and with dignity, not allowing it to become a media circus. Bravo Paul!

Yes, sure. I saw him, close up, once and he shone like a diamond in the sun. But does he take out the trash with a smile? That’s the big question! Believe it or not, Ol’ Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra once put his arm around my shoulders for a photo. Charisma and sex appeal? You betcha - but, for sure, he never did the dishes!

I’ve told my husband this for years… the only man I would leave him for is Quincy Jones ! I’ve had such a thing for him forever. I’ve met Bill Clinton and he truly fills up a room. I was so “vaklempt” when I spoke to him that I’m sure I was babbling idiot… he’s probably used to that !

How can anyone describe Bill clinton as sexy when he paid a huge fine and lost his law license for sexually assaulting Paula Jones? He was forced to pay her $850,000 to settle the case. Then there was Juanita Broaddrick who alleged that Bill Clinton sexually assaulted her and injured her. http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:eLBjCyf4cEYJ:www.apfn.org/apfn/Juan… Gerald Ford told his interviewer that he believed Bill Clinton was a sex addict: “Gerald Ford was disturbed by Bill Clinton’s skirt-chasing ways - and thought he should check into a sex addiction clinic. A new book on the late 38th President reveals he had strong views about the Clintons: He thought Hillary wore the pants and that Bill couldn’t keep his zipped. “He’s sick - he’s got an addiction. He needs treatment,” Ford told Daily News Washington Bureau Chief Thomas M. DeFrank, author of “Write It When I’m Gone: Remarkable Off-the-Record Conversations with Gerald R. Ford.” Ford’s wife, Betty, who founded a pioneering treatment center after her battle with alcoholism and drugs, agreed. “You know, there’s treatment for that kind of addiction,” she told DeFrank during the same conversation in 1999. “A lot of men have gone through the treatment with a lot of success. But he won’t do it, because he’s in denial.” The Fords first got to know the Clintons in the summer of 1993, when they invited the new First Family to their home in Colorado. Gerald Ford’s impressions of the Oval Office’s latest tenant were mixed. He believed Clinton was charismatic, articulate, a “helluva salesman” and the best politician he’d ever seen - even better than John F. Kennedy. But he considered Clinton a foreign-policy wimp, and sensed that he hadn’t learned from mistakes in his personal life - allegations of womanizing that dogged him during the campaign for the White House. That opinion was based on behavior Ford witnessed the weekend he hosted the Clintons in Colorado. “I’ll tell you one thing: He didn’t miss one good-looking skirt at any of the social occasions,” Ford said later. “He’s got a wandering eye, I’ll tell you that. Betty had the same impression; he isn’t very subtle about his interest.” Nevertheless, when the Monica Lewinsky sex-and-perjury scandal erupted and barreled toward impeachment, Ford was willing to help Clinton - to a point. “…the sitting President phoned the ex-President. “He said he needed my help and wanted to know if I could help,” Ford recalled not long after. … “Ford was stunned by Clinton’s lack of contrition. “It’s a character flaw,” he concluded. “I’m convinced that Clinton has a sexual addiction. He needs to get help - for his sake. He’s already damaged his presidency beyond repair,” he told DeFrank.” http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world/2007/10/28/2007-10-28_newsers_b…

Bill Clinton may be a sex addict and if he is, it’s an illness. John McCain has an illness which needs treatment too, PTSD. The sex addiction doesn’t bother me because I’m not married to Bill and a sex addict can still govern as he has proven. As far as it damaging his presidency, it shouldn’t have even been an issue. However, untreated PTSD cannot be overlooked in a potential president.

DeBúrca obj, My ex was a hopeless womanizer. But, I also knew other women whose husbands were philanderers. However, I’m not sure my ex was a sex addict. He was proud of his, um … sexual prowess, and he had a VERY healthy libido. But, does this mean he was addicted to sex? He was VERY particular about his women and would have never been caught with someone like Monica Lewinsky. I would think that someone who had PTSD would be indiscriminate respective to sex partners. I’m not sure. I just think that being sexually active with more than one individual does not necessarily mean a person is a sex addict. When we had marriage counseling, the psychiatrist used PTSD as an excuse, and tried to convince me to ‘forgive my ex’ because sexual addiction was an illness. At the time I dismissed it as a bunch of crap. After six sessions she told me that I was the one with the problem. I quit going. And .. you guessed it. The horny bitch dogged my ex for months. He wasn’t a sex addict. He was a male whore.

Oh! And, I WAS being facetious about PTSD. (After all, anyone can develop post traumatic stress disorder having nothing to do with military POW experiences.)

I wasn’t implying that McCain’s PTSD would make him chase women… I meant it would keep him from having the clear headed, reason to run a country. As for Clinton, I was just referring to the post above (that long one) that said Gerald Ford said Clinton was a sex addict. Personally I find it laughable that anyone would quote Gerald Ford’s opinion on Clinton’s sex life, and I also have no idea if he was/is an addict or not. My guess would be that he has a hard time saying “no” and gets lots of offers. I think that happens a lot with men in positions of power.
