50 Sexiest Men Over 50: wowOwow's 2008 50-Over-50 List

They weren’t born yesterday.

Long before Justin Timberlake became a Mouseketeer these 50 men — from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Bill Clinton to Tom Brokaw to name a few — were "bringing sexy back." And they’ve still got it — today maybe more than ever.

Click here to see wOw’s 2008 List of the 50 Sexiest Men Over 50 in Photos.

What makes the mature man so sexy?

"No sense of desperation," said wowOwow’s Liz Smith.

As for Candice Bergen: "Older men have just always been the sexiest to me. Far more than Leonardo or Brad. I saw Ben Bradley the other night and at 87 he is still one of the most attractive, intelligent, fascinating and sexy men alive."

According to Joan Juliet Buck: "We all know the glossy lure and sad reality of cute men. The dream is a mature man who knows what he likes, knows himself, has seen what life does, but still can laugh and has kept up his hope and is not bitter, who is curious, enterprising and strong."

Joan Ganz Cooney says: "Sexy at any age is a man who makes me laugh and seems a little dangerous."

And according to Cynthia McFadden, there are two necessary ingredients: "Sexy is smart and funny."

Boy are you ever right about John McCain.

DeBurca: Shouldn’t have been an issue?!?! ANY addiction that a president has should be an issue. Perhaps you are not familiar with what happens to a person who has addictions….they will go to any length to get the thing they crave (until they get treatment, or decide they want to overcome their addiction with help). If a president has an addiction it puts him in a vulerable place. That puts our nation, YOU AND ME, in a vulerable place. If you or I lie in court (called purgery), we would end up in prision—so should anyone else, regard- less of status or position, have the same consequences. The law is supposed to be the same for everyone.

First of all, we have no idea if Clinton had an addiction. He had sex, that’s all we know, someone in here said Gerald Ford said he had an addiction… since when was Gerald Ford an authority on sex or addictions? Secondly, Clinton was one of the hardest working, best prepared presidents we have ever had. No matter if you agreed with him or not, nobody has ever been able to accuse him of slacking off on the job or not doing his homework. However, W, who spent the LEAST amount of time in Washington because he’d rather cut brush in TX and go to bed early, is at the very least a dry drunk with classic personality traits of a dry drunk.

And, just where is Joe Biden, if I might ask, on this list? If I weren’t so disgusted with “ideas” of what sexy is, I would feel sympathy for the “nut jobs” who created this list. I’ll say it again….Joe Biden is the sexiest man alive!!!!!!!! End of subject, and yeah, I know sexy when I see it.

I agree that Joe Biden is an attractive man, but he looks just like my next door neighbor so I just can’t see him as “sexy”, it feels creepy!

Well, DeBurca, I guess we can’t agree on EVERY little thing. But, I forgive you since I know your basic feelings on this subject. It’s like you may find a relative very attractive but could never think of him as sexy. You are allowed that and are forgiven this time.

Barb, Glad you partially agree. I’ve met both and believe me, however charming he might be, Bill Clinton is no Joe Biden like Bentson told Quayle.

Deburka says “John McCain has an illness which needs treatment too,” and she refers to PTSD. A FAR MORE serious illness, which barely gets a mention is his stage 2 (or, possibly stage 3) melanoma and the related state of his health. Unfortunately, he has refused to release his medical records for full and detailed scrutiny and his doctors (as far as I know) are silent on the issue of his prognosis. If McCain were elected, Palin would be just a couple of melanoma-seeded lymph nodes from the Presidency.

They are both serious… the PTSD because it would effect his ability to govern rationally and the melanoma, because if he is physically unable to finish his term we have a Soccer Mom running the country when we are engaged in 2 wars and a Depression.

Re: Gerald Ford on Bill Clinton … no offense to Ford, who I believe was a good man, but where does he get off “diagnosing” Clinton based on news reports? Sure, Clinton has his flaws. But Ford didn’t *know* him and he’s not a physician. Being married to an alcoholic doesn’t make you a shrink, so Ford’s comments are opinions and that’s all. Probably opinions he should have kept to himself.

I gotta tell ya’all…my husband is the sexy man I know over 60! And that’s after 38 years of marriage. The next on my list is Clint Eastwood. I must say this is a nice change from the financial stuff and far less depressing. I don’t drink but I may start if I watch any more news either from the US or up here (Canada).

I am disappointed that you included Sean Connery! I caught a Barbara Walters interview some years back when he confessed that he believed women needed to be slapped around. Definitely NOT SEXY.
