'60 Minutes' Takes You to a Military Briefing in Iraq (Video)

Lesley Stahl

Watch the video below for a sneak peek at my upcoming Sunday report on Iraq, where we attended a military briefing about the Battle for Sadr City and the use of whiz-bang high technology to defeat the Shiite militia of Al Sadr. Also, you won’t want to miss this interview with an FBI undercover agent who infiltrated the Gambino family. And more …

I am probably in the minority on this site with my appreciation of that technology. If they could focus on individuals, it’d be perfect!

Lesley, I am wondering if this is the weapon that Bob Woodward spoke about in his 60 Minutes interview about his latest book? The remote drones have been around for a long time. Weren’t they used a lot in Afghanistan to hunt Bin Laden. Did they have weaponry then. We used to hear about them being shot down in Afghanistan. I guess I will have to watch 60 Minutes tonight.

Leslie, how about ending the Iraq War, and spend that $10 billion-a-month to rebuild America, rather than Iraq. Let Iraq, with its $79 billion surplus, rebuild and defend itself.

Nothing whiz bang about this war. Lets end it. Sorry Leslie, I will not be watching this session of 60 minutes.

Scarey. Those weapons ,which of course ,will never be used on us. Like a war game. No blood for us, the one’s with the joystick.

I thought that was a terrific (and so very informative) piece on 60 Minutes tonight. Best one about the new technology of the war I’ve seen yet. Thank goodness we can finally employ some high tech to combat the low tech in warfare.

My Alias It was an interesting story. I loved watching Lesley walking around with all those military men, they in camo and she in her red blouse. The meeting was fascinating. I was amazed that they would let her do that. I would prefer there was no war, but I think the new weapons will deter many deaths. I don’t like the idea of any kind of war. Let’s get off foreign oil and get our alternative energy programs started to reposition ourselves to better negotiate. More negotiation and less war.

I watched the program––––and couldn’t help thinking that with all our spiffy technology and with all our big boys in uniform it is a fool’s playground and a fool’s war. The concrete wall set-up made me wince––was waiting, Leslie, for you to tell us how many were killed during that maneuver––I found it terrifying. But we will go on and on and on and in the end what kind of sad country will emerge, if indeed a country will emerge at all?

Eventually someone will say, “Mr. President, tear down this wall.” Meanwhile, it was fascinating that slabs of concrete were so effective. In consort with that AMAZING spy plane. It was fascinating how they could use it to uncover enemy strategies. I’m against the war too Phyllis. We should never have gone in. However, we need to win this correctly (if POSSIBLE!) :-<
