wOw: Are you good at keeping secrets?

Blackford: I’ve kept all your secrets, wOw.

wOw: Aren’t you only a heartbeat away from Mrs. McCain?

Blackford: I would say yes when she does all of her interviews, when we travel on the road and when she’s approached by the press. But Mrs. McCain is an incredibly smart and capable woman and really can hold her own. I usually brief her first thing in the morning, depending upon what time our day starts, and I leave her the last thing at night when we get to whatever hotel we’re staying at.

wOw: What drew you to your job?

Blackford: I think with Mrs. McCain in particular, I’ve never seen someone so maligned. Having worked in the media for so many years as a senior broadcast producer both at "Good Morning America" and "The Early Show" on CBS, I knew who a lot of the players were. I thought I could help enlighten her to the mainstream media.  I really was drawn to her because she’s an incredible woman and so strong and yet she is so misrepresented in the media. It was shocking to me how misrepresented she was. I don’t want to go too much into the image of her, but I think everybody knows that she was very quiet and stood silently behind her husband but, that is not who she is at all.

She’s a very accomplished woman in her own right. And I think a lot of times the main stream media sees a Republican woman, or the wife of a Republican candidate and think, ‘Oh they must be brainless, witless and told to do whatever they’re told to do.’ But I think that has been disproved with Laura Bush and I think the same goes as well for Cindy McCain. These women have strong opinions and lives of their own.

wOw:Do you and Mrs. McCain ever discuss Mrs. Obama and what do you say?

Blackford:We don’t, actually. They’re both very different women at this point in their lives.  Mrs. McCain certainly understands where Mrs. Obama is in her life now. Mrs. McCain understands that Mrs. Obama is the mother of two young girls. She’s been there too. But her children are older now and she has four of them. But she understands the trials and tribulations of trying to juggle a political life and maintain some balance of family life.

wOw:How does she stay in touch with her children right now?

Blackford:She has three BlackBerrys at all times! She’s the most technologically advanced person I’ve ever met. It’s amazing. She is constantly on the phone with her children or texting them all day long.

OMG…will refund a small number of contributions… … and not one penny more. The woman is living in public housing and is probably receiving free health care from the state of Massachusetts… seems like the redistribution of wealth has already begun.

(whether the ones here want to admit it or not) I SEE CLEARLY… I guess because I’ve not allowed myself to believe the hype of hope and change bull.

Iamnuts—-You’ve been asked many times to provide facts of his being a traitor and haven’t. That’s just about the most cowardly thing going to slander someone and then not back it up with anything substanative whatsoever despite having a forum and an audience and multiple requests. You are a sorry piece of work to denigrate without any proof or anything whatsoever to back it up.

You are “right”, it is not slander, it is libel. Until you back it up with facts, which you obviously cannot do, you are speaking only opinions, not truths. If you want to win an argument, you need to establish a degree of credibility. Good luck with that. Interestingly, “despicable” is exactly the word I used to describe the Republican campaign. The lies and distortions were an insult to democracy and socially destructive. McCain was in over his head from the beginning. He can now best serve the country by reigning in the far right as a Senator, as Obama must reign in the far left and run as moderate an administration as possible.

i’ve yet see Ms. DeBurca ‘trash’ anyone—-what i have seen is your brain truly needs ‘Joe-the Plumber.’ insult? no, a reasonable person’s view—-bush’s absurd attack of Iraq vs. the Taliban has become a nightmare, one we may never win—-as ‘The Nam’—-at 5:AM this morning, Frontline had a special on same—-noted, the defeat of the Brits, then the Huge Russian attempt—-pointed-out that in over 10,000 years, no one has , as Bobble Lee would say, ‘whupped’ these crazies—- Why? several main reasons—-the terrain, the culture (far less sane vs. ‘uncle Ho’), and proximity to Pakistan—-after 9/11, i wrote a relative, who was the ‘press-agent’, during the 1st Gulf War—-my advice? Tac-Nuke All known Al-Queda, Taliban Mt. Areas—-and do it fast—-would you expect that from an old hippy/war protester/civil rights 60’s soul? not likely—-right? yet i saw a ‘last-chance’ to finish this, elegantly, swiftly—-Tac-Nukes leave no long-term radiation hazard, are devastating, and in the traditional Taliban mt. refuges, near zero ‘collateral’ damage—-far from population centers—-check-mate—- furthermore, this would have sent a clear message to Pakistan—-harbor Taliban, Al Queda??? build bomb-shelters—-or kill ‘em yourself—-you or them—-DO YOU UNDERSTAND???? i can’t hear you!!!!!

Could you not steer clear of hypocrisy, just once? My goodness, what do you get out of talking about one thing then doing another every day, all the time.

DeB— I agree. Horrible public image gets you slings and arrows, which everyone in the public gets, including Michelle Obama and Jackie Kennedy. So boo-hoo. Maybe Cindy should take more meds. Typical GOP Stepford Wife.

Reading the rest of this forum’s threads isn’t of much interest to me, however, I agree with you DeBurca. It is interesting that this “assistant” felt she had to rescue Cindy from leading a maligned life, instead of addressing her concerns to her colleagues doing the so-called maligning. Isn’t that one of the risks in public life? My first thought has always been if it’s too hot in the kitchen, or I don’t feel comfortable, I’m outta there. Perhaps Cindy is not allowed to get “outta there.” One phrase popped out at me, though: “and stood silently behind her husband but, that is not who she is at all.” That is the reason for her being maligned, it started right there. The partnership that marriage can offer does not mandate either person to stand “silently behind her husband” or wife, for that matter. In fact, why is she there in the first place? I have wondered the same thing when I found out “that man” standing next to Palin was also her spouse. Don’t they have anything else to do?

Yep I agree. A spouse standing silently next to the candidate, whose voice you don’t even recognize because you haven’t heard it enough, or as in Palin’s husband’s case, heard it at all…. just doesn’t feel right. Male or female. That is a fact, not an attempt at trashing anyone, as a couple people want to portray it. The fact is, if people are perceiving you (ie. Cindy McCain or even Todd Palin) a certain way, looking at the actual reasons for it, as opposed to simply blaming it on outside forces, would be the more intelligent way to handle it. But handling the campaign in an “intelligent way” would not be in keeping with the history of this McCain Campaign.

De, What I find pathetic is that the World is supposed to feel sorry for Cindy McCain. I know if I owned 7 houses………..13 cars……………….had millions upon millions of dollars. Beautiful clothes…………..wonderful children…………….good health. I would not want or deserve other’s pity. She’s a big girl………..beautiful………has her own life she leads. She’s the wife of a man running for the the position of the most Important job in the World. I personally can’t see a single thing that the rest of us should pity her for. I don’t think she pity’s herself………if she does that is really pitiable. I think her Secretary who did this interveiw with Wow is just trying to get her name out there to the public…………You know everone likes there 15 min of fame. When you’re at the top in the public eye………it’s open season. Both sides have been miligned from the press. This has been going on as long as we’ve had elections and had the press. What’s the big deal……………nothing’s changed.

Well I think it’s just another case of “vilify the media” which has been a huge part of the McCain strategy. Discredit the media and act the victim. First, if you discredit the media, when the media reports that you are lying in your ads or anything else unfavorable, you already have your followers convinced the media is against you, so it doesn’t matter what’s reported! And as for the victim ploy, you can just listen to some of his supporters in here the way they go on about the election as though Obama is evil and is stealing it in some underhanded way, or maybe he’s in collusion with some shady entity! It’s a pathetic way to attempt to win an election and I hope to God it fails this time around or else we’ll have to live through it again in 4 years.

De, I agree it’s another case of Vilify the media. I’m just saying the Media seems to be confused about what’s the difference between news and gossip. I think what we used to think of as the News Media has turned into gossip avenues………. What ever pops up on the internet the main stream media seems to run with it without even checking the facts anymore. President Bush has controlled the News Media this past 8 years………….I think if some of our respected News People had stood up to him we just might not have gone to WAR. I think the Republican Party over the years has just been better at using the Media to broadcast their Lies and underhanded methods than the Democrats. They certainly did a good job of undermining Kerry 4 years ago…………….. At Least the Democrats have been fighting back this time around. Lets Just Pray OBAMA/BIDEN win come Tuesday. I can’t imagine what a terrible life Americans will have to look forward to if McCain wins. I am so sick of the name calling in the media and also on this blog. I think the disrespect shown here at times is deplorable. Again I say………….Be Passionate about your SUBJECT, JUST DONT CALL EACH OTHER NAMES. Don’t make it so nasty and personal. There have been times on this site when I would have liked to call people names like………Stupid…….dumb……….ignorant……nasty……….mean maybe even worse at times. But I happen to be a civilized human being who tries to be civil with those with whom I disagree.. We all have a right to our own opinions. We have some on this site right now that would probably be best if we just ignored them. Just like we did with DR Mark………… It doesn’t seem they want to be involved with a discussion. Just name calling I don’t mind anyone disagreeing with anything I have to say. (I enjoy a good disagreement) I just dont like when they choose a personal nasty hateful attack against any of us who disagree with them.
