A 'How-To' Video Made for the Technically-Challenged

Joni Evans

Dear Friends:

For those of us who are technically-challenged, Liz Smith, our "tech guru," gives a quick lesson on how to use the wowOwow site. Watch the video below.

And, have you noticed? The wOw Contributors have started responding directly to some of your comments. So check back on your old comments and often you’ll find us. And, more and more.

XOXOX,

Joni

I agreee with Swimming Lee. Your interview on Charlie Rose (God bless him!) was wonderful. I’m so glad I watched tonight and learned about you site. Listening to talk and laugh with each other felt just like talking with my group of wonderful women friends. Great site. Congratulations

What’s the point of a preview button if you can’t edit your post? ….and…. there should be a way for a post to be deleted.

Maybe this post could have a permanent spot on the home page so that those new to the sight can access the video for “how to” instruction. It could eliminate a lot of fumbling around.

are there many English women residing in Spain registering with Wowowow? I’ll invite some friends along. The concept and the site is fun and it feels liberating though I don’t really know why particularly as I am pretty liberated. I suppose its because I don’t feel I have to “like”; “sick” “book” and “its so not…”. And while I’m at it why don’t they put anybody over 40 on the Apprentice (the UK one that is). It would make such a difference. And don’t tell me it wouldn’t make good television..(Am I on the right place for rants?)

Great how to video. I weaned myself off horoscopes years ago, so wish we weren’t there, but I’ll tolerate for discussion.

you are ginger rogers beautiful, liz…your auto-biography graces my multitudinous collection of bookshelves…gonna look for it today! loved your remarks at the gov. ann richards memorial service..remember them still. can you believe that ben stein has put together a documentary bashing EVOLUTION and likening “survival of the fittest” to “the final solution”—caught that on the fox channel friday evening…and wondered what century we might be part of lately as even great minds are operating in a backward motion? i still dig darwin—stein can’t touch me with his mania—i’ll just climb a tree to avoid him…then after consuming several bananas, i shall hurl the skins at him AND his documentary—as i stated elsewhere on this site, wondering whether this earth of ours can currently be referred to as passing through some demented phase—SLAPSTICK or CATASTROPHE? just click onto your choice. where would we all be without polling? a lot better off? and much less stereotyped!

So…if one of us turns out to be NOT part of the demographic your advertisers want to target, will you just block us?

Hello Ladies,The video was perfect. I have some of the same questions.:1) Is there a better way of realizing that someone replied on the different sites, 2)I like to make sure that my spelling is correct, but there is no check spelling key. 3)Is this site for women 40 and above , or is it for anybody (males)to use. Thank-You all so very much for you patience. Love ya Carol

Hi Caroline I am unable to view the video (and have posted a request for a transcript version of the information) but meanwhile, I just wanted to let you know I am experiencing the same confusion as you are with your concern # 1. I think that some folks blog with regularity and therefore understand the process better than someone like me who is new to the concept. I did e-mail wowowow requesting assistance with this very issue, and hope they will come up with a way to tweak things a bit. If not, I predict that those of us who are newbies will ultimately learn to navigate the system as is. Re question # 2, I have found it helpful to “copy and paste” my commentary into an e-mail pane where I can use the spell-checker there before I post anything. I assume it would also work to compose our comments in the e-mail program, spell-check the message there, then “copy and paste” a finished product into the response box in the site. Others have referenced “pasting” information into their messages, although I haven’t actually tried it myself. The other thing that is useful about transferring a copy of a message to an e-mail pane is that it can be filed in a folder for future reference. Re question # 3, the ladies were discussing this site on the Charlie Rose show last month and I was left with the impression that they welcomed everyone to participate so long as we all follow the rules. There is a link to their “Terms of Service” at the bottom of the page. Warmest regards

I *love* the Tiffany watch in the upper left of the home page- it took me a few days to realize that it actually tells the correct time for where I am! A nice way to get value from an advertisement placement. The hair day weather forecast is fun also (another obvious product placement opportunity…). Like Kathy Nikao, I wouldn’t have time for horoscopes, but I can ignore it on the page easily enough.

Hello WOW-women I would really like to access the information in the instructional video but I have an old-fashioned dial-up system (info comes in at 26.40bps on a good day) and am unable to download large data files/video. Are you planning to post a transcript for the techno-deprived? If so, thanks in advance. If not, I am truly enjoying your site, computer limitations notwithstanding. :-)
