Did you see the movie ? I’ve been told that Mickey Rourke was wonderful, but the movie was terrible. Is that wrong ?

Just ordered Frozen River on Netflix. It got wonderful reviews. And I hope to see Slumdog soon.

I have no idea who will win an Oscar this year, but I do predict that the Academy Awards will have a fewer share of audience than in recent years. The numbers have been drifting downward for some time now. Why? One guess. Maybe the Academy could arrange a special appearance via a communication link to President Obama. It certainly would not hurt the ratings. Congratulations to all who have been nominated.

I saw Benjamin Button and found it very boring and much too long! I am totally stunned that it received 13 nominations including Best Picture. What did I miss? Linda Lee

IMO the committee over thinks the nominations and attempts to distinguish themselves from the Golden Globes. I would have preferred that they award Heath Ledger a lifetime achievement Oscar and pay him a special tribute and let those vote on the performances based on their merits.

Kate Winslet was amazing in The Reader. But how was she missed for Revolutionary Road? Michael Shannon for supporting in that picture. Amazing performance! But MILK for Best Picture? Really?! It was terrible. I struggled through it. Thought it was miscast across the board and not well directed. Haven’t seen Button yet. It looks like one you know you should go see because of the cast, but, it doesn’t send you racing to the box office. I’ll watch anything with Frank Langella in it though. So glad he got a nod.
