Anderson Cooper Not Laughing at Rachel Maddow

Don’t expect journalists Anderson Cooper and Rachel Maddow to be working together in the near future.

Not only are they on different networks — Cooper is CNN’s big man, while Maddow is MSNBC’s fresh face — but apparently Cooper doesn’t always appreciate Maddow’s approach to worldwide events.

Chatting with the Los Angeles Times this weekend, Cooper lamented the fact that Maddow and another outspoken lady, CNN colleague Campbell Brown, inject their coverage with too much opinion:

LA Times: This year we saw the rise of Rachel Maddow and Campbell Brown — very opinionated. You haven’t succumbed too much. Do you have plans to?

AC: I have no plans to, no. I think those people are really good at what they do. Rachel Maddow is an incredible talent — she’s funny, and smart, obviously well researched on subjects. I’m just not interested as a viewer in listening to anchors’ opinions. It seems like there’s an awful lot of yelling, and this year yelling’s been replaced by sarcasm and snarkiness.

Yeah, that may be the case, but we love a girl with a sense of both the world and humor about it all. Because, let’s face it, sometimes the news is too grim to bear!

So he’s an Apple, and she/they are Oranges! so what? I hapen to watch all three of them! I do not consider one of them more superior to another…they each have their way of constructing their own shows…and that is a good thing….who wants robots and clones that only report one side of a story?

… who wants robots and clones that only report one side of a story? That’s why I don’t watch MSNBC & CNN. They really just report one side of the story. They are the least objective and most biased “news” organizations (in my opinion - get it? I’m not a reporter) - oh, yeah and vicious.

Oh, I watch them ALL, Beth—-even fox, cnbc, c-span, pbs, bbc, history, discovery—and not to forget nightline! and charlie rose!—and every now and then, I will catch the network news on the non-cable stations….and then—-and then—-I THINK! hahaha

Wouldn’t expect different from either Cooper or Maddow. If I want serious and [relatively] objective, I’ll watch Cooper. If I want insightful opinions along with a sense of humor from someone who is of like mind, then I’ll watch Olbermann and Maddow. Don’t see an issue here. Though I take some (a little) exception to calling what they do “sarcasm and snarkiness.” But hey! Cooper has a right to his point of view.

,”and this year yelling’s been replaced by sarcasm and snarkiness” I really respect Anderson Cooper and find Rachel Maddow entertaining … sarcasm and snarkiness is exactly what we get from Campbell Brown, who identifies herself as a journalist. I turn off CNN when she comes on.

I have enjoyed watching Anderson Cooper grow into the powerhouse that he has become. He seems to be an objective and fair communicator, and I appreciate that he is trying to bring the global environmental issues to the fore. He will be around for a long time, and I’m sure that his mom, Gloria Vanderbilt, is proud of his achievements. He has had an interesting life, and overcome great tragedy…

Well he’s right about the yelling and snarkiness-I refuse to watch CNN anymore just for that very reason. Reuters is just as good IMO at getting the info out.

I just love Rachel Maddow. I admit I would like to hear (on her show and from her) more straight news and more in depth reporting of some of the other quirky and quarky bits and pieces of news world-wide which really should grab our attention. She would be so much better than most at presenting these. Still, she is a Joy!

I really admire Anderson Cooper, he is the quintensential class act in broadcasting. And, he is so right in stating that news has also become a venue for snarkiness and sarcasm.

I love Rach! She’s obviously bright and funny and has a smile that lasts for days. She could read me the phone book! AC is dead on regarding the yelling sarcasm and snarkiness. That’s why we’re all on the web looking for great content…

Rachel Maddow is a Liberal commentator, that’s what she is, that’s what she was hired to be and that is what she does. She is not a reporter. Anderson Cooper need only look to FOX news to see why there is a need for people like Maddow in the tiny slice of liberal media that we have.

I totally agree with DeBurca.

DeB: Are you out of your mind? “tiny slice of liberal media that we have” Really now, the media is ALL LIBERAL, or haven’t you been watching?

No, I am informed enough to know that what we have is a profit oriented Corporate Media, with corporate interests… coupled with a huge monopoly of a right wing propoganda machine, such as FOX. It is those on FOX who perpetuate the myth that there is a Liberal media. Not the case.

DB: You mention FOX, but not ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC etc, etc. Those are the liberal medias of which I speak.
