Anderson Cooper Not Laughing at Rachel Maddow

Don’t expect journalists Anderson Cooper and Rachel Maddow to be working together in the near future.

Not only are they on different networks — Cooper is CNN’s big man, while Maddow is MSNBC’s fresh face — but apparently Cooper doesn’t always appreciate Maddow’s approach to worldwide events.

Chatting with the Los Angeles Times this weekend, Cooper lamented the fact that Maddow and another outspoken lady, CNN colleague Campbell Brown, inject their coverage with too much opinion:

LA Times: This year we saw the rise of Rachel Maddow and Campbell Brown — very opinionated. You haven’t succumbed too much. Do you have plans to?

AC: I have no plans to, no. I think those people are really good at what they do. Rachel Maddow is an incredible talent — she’s funny, and smart, obviously well researched on subjects. I’m just not interested as a viewer in listening to anchors’ opinions. It seems like there’s an awful lot of yelling, and this year yelling’s been replaced by sarcasm and snarkiness.

Yeah, that may be the case, but we love a girl with a sense of both the world and humor about it all. Because, let’s face it, sometimes the news is too grim to bear!

I like Anderson Cooper. The way he presents the news and he’s not hard to look at either. I never seen or heard of Rachel Maddow. I sure will check her out now!

Isn’t Anderson Cooper gay? Just a question, don’t everyone go nuts.

Anderson Cooper is quite popular up here in Canada as well. I watch 360 every day. His coverage on Hurricane Katrina was amazing, and it was touching when he had difficulty keeping his emotions in check. The fact that he is extremely easy on the eyes is an added bonus.

I like Anderson Cooper and Rachel. Christine Amanpour does in depth reporting and I also like her. I am a liberal and I appreciate the different views that Rachel provides. Keith gets a little hyper sometimes but the news can be so serious that a little levity helps. Happy New YEar!!!

Starry Nite, did you happen to catch Christine Amanpour’s “Scream Bloody Murder”? It was one of her best investigative documentaries yet. She is one of the best journalists ever.

CNN sometimes takes itself way too seriously. Give me a sense of humor any day of the week. Go Rachel!

robyn, many of us can relate to your comment. However, he does have a small “fan club” here, just one of those things that makes you shake your head and question the universe.

I want Walter Cronkite like news reporting and commentation, The things that take place in our country and around the world are too important to be taken likely by fluff and constant yelling. Give it to me straight and allow me to make up my own mind.

Walter Cronkite is the epitome of what newscasters should be. I think now ratings and advertisers rule . Majority wants entertainment even when people say they don’t . Now since I am taking more of an interest in politics -I realize just how the the media fails us. It is difficult to sift through the spin.

Besides the very large fact that Maddow’s shows are NOT well-researched, she recently did a ridiculous piece on Hubert Hoover, factually wrong on 4 major points, she does those silly voices, Ugh! She is a commenter, not a journalist, however, on some stations, especially that joke MSNBC, you don’t need to be! Just say whatever you want, and make people believe it’s the truth, ala Matthews and Olbermann. I am sad that people don’t cringe when they see these shows, these people are teaching America things that are lies. I don’t particularly care for CNN, or most suck up tv personalities, but Cooper is at least more factually accurate. He is at least a real journalist, though he can slide down the slippery lie slope, also. Journalism on televsion is a joke, a laugh. If you have a college degree and watch these yahoos explain the “New Deal” to you and don’t want to run screaming from your home, then I am surprised.
