Angelina Jolie Breast-Feeding on Cover of W Magazine (Photo)

Gone are the days when women hide their breast pumps …
In a photograph cited as tasteful and appealing, the megastar of Clint Eastwood’s film "Changeling" is posing on the cover of the November issue of W magazine — apparently breast-feeding one of her newborn twins. Angelina Jolie, 33, gave birth to twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline in July with her partner Brad Pitt. The cover displays a black-and-white photograph of Jolie relaxed and smiling in a sleeveless shirt. Her left breast is exposed and partially covered by a hand so tiny that it could only belong to that of a baby. The cover headline promises exclusive "private photos" of the A-list couple. The November issue hits newsstands nationwide October 21.
The world’s oldest breast-feeding support organization is applauding Jolie for being photographed while seemingly nursing — for it may help to break down stereotypes.
"I think we do need more role models like Angelina Jolie willing to be photographed and say, ‘Hey look, it can be done, it oughta’ be done,’" said the spokesperwoman for La Leche League International, Jane Crouse, to the Associated Press.

Yay! I’m glad to see that. Maybe it will catch on that it’s not “dirty or should be hidden”
I agree. I nursed each of my kids for a full year. The eldest I nursed all over Europe — every photo of that trip seemed to be taken when we stopped to feed the baby! What I liked about it was that if forced me to sit down and spend a lovely quiet time with my baby.
Good for her. It is not hard to be discreet and breast feed. I never gave my babies pacifiers, and when others tried, they wouldn’t take them. They were breast fed from the beginning until about 9 months with slow transition to a bottle. It is so important for their immune system and the mother child bonding. It isn’t for everyone, but it was for me and my children. That wonderful peaceful time was ever precious. I applaud Ms. Jolie. She continues to advocate for the right causes.
She look radiant! Look close that little hand is making a Peace sign!
Also the little hand saying, more and enough ba be bo dooooo……
I think it’s great! Breast feeding is supposed to be better for the baby, right? People seem to do what all “the stars” are doing. Hopefully it will show people that even the rich and famous breast feed and they will follow suit. You go girl!!
I think its wonderful! I love seeing new Mothers out in public with their babies and breast feeding…I wasnt able to breast feed, my daughter just wouldnt latch on right and it was so painful…i was so looking forward to being able to spend that time with my daughter b/c no one else can do it but the Mother…
But I think its great to see women, of course, covered up, breast feeding b/c we dont want them to get arrested for indecent exposure…I have also noticed a lot of places I go now have nursing rooms for Mothers with tvs and changing tables and recliners…I think its great…
I mean if we can embrace the nudity on our tvs what is so wrong about a Mother feeding her child?
Breastfeeding is the best. And economical!
But I was a little shocked when I was at a grocery store in San Diego a few months ago, and a woman with a squawling toddler riding in her cart, whipped our her breast just to shush him. And then, while the child rolled its eyes up at me while he nursed, she asked me if I could reach into the refrigerator section and get her the item she needed. I did. And then I ran.
When I did the christmas shopping the year my son was born (1979), I nursed him in just about every store in town; sometimes in the changing rooms and sometimes in the middle of the mall. It was a lovely time-out for both of us. We need to get over this obsession with breasts; they are milk-producing glands. It has not helped that the porn industry (with an assist from plastic surgery industry) has turned them into sexual paraphernalia. We need to support and encourage our nursing sisters.
Sorry but I find public breast-baring, for any purpose, very offensive. I understand that this is a natural act but there are several natural acts that really should be kept a bit more private. This is one of them.
Sylvia so would you rather hear a screaming infant who is hungry??? then to witness the most natural form of feeing a child? I was jealous one day in walmart b/c the women in front of us had one of those sling “things” that holds babies and she had a beautiful parka type covering her up & under it she was breastfeeind her 2 month old…I was so jealous b/c I was never able to do that with my daughter…I mean she had both hands free while her infant was able to feed…
I never implied that an infant shouldn’t be fed. I merely stated that exposing one’s breast publicly was offensive. One can feed an infant without flopping one’s tit out. Just because something is “natural” doesn’t mean it should be done publicly.
Sylvia, you make me laugh! I am thinking of all the “natural” things we have seen so far publicly and the “natural” ones, we might see in the future! I agree ” appropriateness” should be considered.
Hello Sylvia, Yes, I can see why you may be uncomfortable. The “tit” is actually a breast, and “flopping it out” is one delicate maneuver only to be compared with nutrition and love. I am sorry you feel the way you do. You make a good point about the “natural” thing however. So why is it that you are really so uncomfortable with public breastfeeding?
I’m far from the only one who is uncomfortable with this. I feel it’s inappropriate to expose breasts publicly whether it’s breast feeding or topless dancing; it’s still an exposed breast. This doesn’t mean I’m against breast feeding but that it should be done with some discretion. The basic activity isn’t much different than a cow or cat or dog or any other mammal feeding its young but we aren’t cows or cats or dogs. We have different sensibilities and those sensibilities vary a great deal from one society to another and even within a given society. While one person has the right to breast feed, another person has the right to be spared the sight of an exposed breast.
