Ann Coulter Comes Out Swinging on the 'Today' Show

Tom Cruise, move over. The mega media manipulator took on Matt Lauer … and comes out swinging

In what was the "Today" show’s most contentious segment since Tom Cruise told Matt Lauer he was glib, author and controversial pundit Ann Coulter finally had her segment on the popular show this morning. After a week of ratings-driving and book-selling Internet and media controversy over her cancellation, Ann Coulter sat down this morning with Matt Lauer in the No. 1 segment within the news at the top of the seven o’clock hour.

Coulter’s new book, Guilty: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America (Crown Forum), hit bookshelves this week and has been front and center in the media maelstrom … a hallmark of the marketing savvy of the agita-inducing author.

The question about the Internet rumor that Coulter had been banned from the "Today" show and NBC for life was Lauer’s interview opener, asking Coulter if she had been behind that rumor. Coulter replied that it had been offered by a very credible source. She added that it wasn’t until the Drudge Report ran a story about the banning that NBC reinstated its invitation.

Lauer, referring to the incendiary language in her book, asked if Coulter’s outrageous comments and venomous tone worked to reduce her credibility, when, in fact, her book does raise important and challenging issues.

Coulter replied that hers are not outrageous statements, and instead address massive problems that the mainstream media are not tackling.

Lauer asked why she provocatively calls the president-elect "B. Hussein Obama" in the book. Coulter, linking the name of the soon-to-be-sworn-in president to the country’s war against Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, stated that if a midcentury presidential candidate such as Thomas Dewey had "Hitler" as his middle name, the media in those days would have called attention to it.

When asked if she felt the country was saying they are tired of partisan politics, Coulter demurred, saying, "Liberals want conservatives to stop talking, so they tell us how wonderful B. Hussein Obama is."

When asked what she thought of George Bush, she replied, "I am grateful to Bush for keeping the nation safe for the last eight years. We’ll see if that continues."

Lauer ended the interview with, "Obviously, you are not banned for life."

MaryPage Drake did you actually read the story on the Drudge Report about this? Or are you just believing what you think is the true account here?

Ann Coutler didn’t put the story out about her being band for life from the Today show!

The main problem I have with liberal is that you refuses to read anything way from the liberal media press that actually pertains to the true account of the story.

Go read the story and then come back with an informed opinion.

She is really Lisa Hallaby, blonde blue eyed American girl, a wonderful spokesperson for Muslims. Evil finds its way in all religions races and creeds. Look at the evil perpetrated by the Wall Street geckos and the neocons for the past years. I admire the principles of republicanism, but history has taught me that without strict oversight man will always revert to the lowest common denominator of greed. And they will also justify their greed and wealth. They will NOT provide for the meek, the weak, or the infirm because if they just die off it makes the race of man stronger. It was a Nazi experimental principle too. I am not saying that REpublicans are Nazis. But I am saying that closed minds in power who create overzealous “definitions” lead to categorizing people in ways that can only end badly. (Hitler/Hussein names) Republicans from what I have seen, seem to MISS the life lesson of compassion. And they suffer badly from narrow minded cognitive dissonance like Sarah Palin exhibited when asked pointed questions or when anyone tries to expose them to a new broader sweeping concept that might involve diverse groups other than their “own.” They fear that a hand out is just that. And that it will not contribute to making a better world. Liberals tend to have compassion for the human experience in its entirety. They are more open minded. They have more compassion for suffering. They share more. They play better in the sandbox in my observations. They are willing to take the risk that giving someone something for the sake of giving it is OK. That we do our best to provide for those with less than us and if you can give them your hand and pull them up, everyone’s lives are instantly blessed and improved simply by the act of giving. Sure there are always lazy shiesters who will take advantage, but that is their karma not the “givers.” When we die, God doesn’t look into one’s bank account and say, go ahead, you did well, come on in. He looks at what we DID with the abundance we had. Did we love right? Do we do right by our neighbors? If the entire world could be stunned and struck by lightning for even one day—long enough to have amnesia about all the wrong things about this planet it would surely change the world. Peace is just a concept and we will never have it ever ever until it resides in the hearts of mankind. Then and only then will we experience heaven on Earth. Imagine walking down any street at any time of day and feeling safe. Imagine not being afraid if you get a flat tire in a poor neighbourhood. Imagine looking at your gun one day and realizing you don’t need it anymore. Imagine going through the local drive through restaurant and buying 20 meals and just stopping on the corner to hand them out. Imagine going to the airport in the next storm and taking home a family that is stranded there to stay overnight in your home because you have a couple spare bedrooms. Imagine keeping coins in your pocket so that you can pop quarters in the empty meters along the street you are walking on—and knowing that while you are delayed in the doctor’s office (where there will be no charges applicable) someone has done that for you too. Imagine “adopting” a battered woman who wears your size and giving her all your old clothes so she can look better for job interviews in the new town she moved to to get away from her husband. Imagine taking the kid next door with no Dad for ice cream every Sunday and talking and listening to him so that he grows up knowing that neighbours are nice and grown ups can be kind and thoughtful. Imagine finding out you have cancer and knowing that your surgery is free and that your savings will go toward paying bills in your recovery and not your hospital. This is the kind of world I want to live in. What has Ann Coulter done lately to show a little love and compassion? What has she done for the Republican party? Has she brought more people into the “fold?” Just curious.

Has anyone ever noticed the etymology of Coulter’s name? “a cutting tool (as a knife or sharp disc) that is attached to the beam of a plow, makes a vertical cut in the surface, and permits clean separation and effective covering of the soil and materials being turned under ” Source: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Coulter How appropriate. Coulter makes deep cuts with her mouth and effectively covers up the truth with BS.

Serena: Perfect!!!! As I was watching this video I was taken once again with how this woman seems to be operating at a over-exhilarated speed––one step ahead of everyone and anyone who interviews her. Her outrageousness sells well. Someone said yesterday––I think Jim Henley––that we women who were critical of her did so because we were jealous––wouldn’t we want to look like her,etc. I found that so laughable and so off the mark and wondered what kind of person would make such an idiotic statement. Matt, I think, hit the nail on the head with the word credibility.; Coulter loses that when she goes off half-cocked. There’s something pathetic about her––something very sad–––––––– but she tries so hard!

Well said, Carmel. Here’s my take—I have seen people that some would consider “plain” in appearance, but their heart and soul make them absolutely appealing. Then, on the other hand, I’ve seen people like AC who MIGHT be attractive if it weren’t for their wicked, pompous attitude. Looks ain’t everything folks! It is fascinating that when you throw the same medicine back at Coulterbots you get admonished for it. Whereas SHE is the one who makes millions using the same technique. Something’s wrong with that. I understand your pain. But don’t forget to attach your “footnotes” like she does. Drowned them in footnotes to back up your words. You are most effective when you do that. Did you see the clip of her on some interview show where she clearly flashes her tw**t at the interviewer in her too-short 80’s style lycra mini wearing nothing but a Brazilian from the waist down. Crikey woman. Clearly sending two messages at the same time. Some guy caught it, taped it, slowed it down and put it on you tube. Hilarious.
