Take That NBC, Coulter Is No 'Downer' on CBS (Video)

Unlike NBC’s "Today" show, CBS’s "Early Show" wasn’t too busy to make time for the controversial conservative Ann Coulter. Coulter appeared this morning on CBS to talk about her latest book, Guilty: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America (Crown Forum). (For full disclosure, Coulter wasn’t too busy for us either when she spoke to wOw friend Myrna Blyth. Click here.)
Coulter’s "Early Show" appearance comes one day after NBC — known for its liberal leanings — abruptly canceled her "Today" show appearance. The cancellation sparked a firestorm of rumors. One report said that the Peacock execs weren’t interested in anyone "so highly critical of President-elect Obama" and her coming on the show would be "such a downer."
Drudge reports:
One network insider claims it was the book’s theme — a brutal examination of liberal bias in the new era — that got executives to dis-invite the controversialist. "We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now," a "Today" insider reveals. "It’s such a downer. It’s just not the time, and it’s not what our audience wants, either."
The cancellation also sparked rumors of a "Coulter ban," in which the beautiful, quick-witted commentator was "banned for life" on the Peacock network. However, according to Drudge’s unnamed insider, this is not true.
So is NBC opting to put mostly like-minded liberals on air?
Not according to one NBC spokesperson who is quoted in the New York Post explaining that Coulter was bumped because they were overbooked with "breaking news."
The Post reports:
Behind the scenes, "Today" sources said they needed to make time for former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s mission to the Middle East and President-elect Barack Obama’s new plan for an economic stimulus package.
Well, there you go, yesterday was a busy day, but they did make time for Perez Hilton. Hilton made a scheduled appearance and spoke about his new book, Red Carpet Suicide. Anyway, then NBC goes on and says something that’s somewhat of a backwards compliment.
"Understanding the media as well as she does," a network spokeswoman said, "we are sure she knows this happens. We look forward to welcoming her back in the future."
Coulter writes of the the cancellation on her official website. It seems NBC’s actions only reaffirmed her opinion of the liberal media: "I guess this ends the ‘they just want to get ratings’ argument about liberal media bias," Coulter writes.
