Ann E. Dunwoody Made First Female Four-Star General

Lt. Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody definitely has something to celebrate this weekend!
After 33 years of serving this nation, Dunwoody was promoted today to a four-star general, thus making her the first female four-star general in the United States. While we would be bouncing off the walls, Dunwoody managed to keep her composure: "There is no one more surprised than I."
Dunwoody is no doubt surprised because she never planned on building a military career. In fact, the 55-year-old originally wanted to be a gym teacher, but enlisted for a two-year stint after graduating from State University of New York. Obviously Dunwoody enjoyed the experience, because she stuck to it and will now head up the Army Materiel Command, which arms, equips and generally suits up the soldiers for battle. It also upgrades weapons and technology — a pretty important post, so you can be sure we’re happy to have a woman in the position!
And Dunwoody’s proud, too, saying, "The Army nurtured me and mentored me, and today the Army offers me the chance to return the favor."
