Anne Hathaway Tackles Barack Obama, Rick Warren and 'Bride Wars' (Video)

Anne Hathaway has a new beau (actor Adam Shulman), a prospective Golden Globe and — unlike some young Hollywood dames — brains! Looking as glamorous as she did when she played a princess in her younger years, Hathaway talked to an E! news reporter on the red carpet and expressed her opinion about Rick Warren’s invite to President-elect Barack Obama’s Inauguration. Many wOwers agree with what she had to say.

"I expect him to explain that choice of Rick Warren," Hathaway said. "I don’t get it. All my friends and I were trying to figure it out, but we just can’t. So I’d love that. But other than that, I expect nothing but the best."

Watch:

Hathaway also appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" today. The ever-generous and helpful Ellen offered to set Anne up and asked her what she’s looking for in a man: "At this point I’d just like him to be law-abiding," Anne said with a smirk, referring, of course, to her conning ex. She contined: "Two thousand and eight was the year I learned how to have a sense of humor about everything." Between her candid humor on "Ellen" and the delightful "Bride Wars" — which also stars the adorable Kate Hudson, and one of our favorite actresses, Candice Bergen — we’re laughing along with you, Anne.

Was Shulman in the Dukes of Hazzard? I looked him up on imdb. He has gentle honest eyes. I hope he treats her well. There are very few young actresses I respect these days. Hathaway is one of them.

Barack Obama has already explained his choice of Warren… I can understand if someone doesn’t agree with it, but to say he needs to explain it just means she isn’t listening.

DeB, she’s listening, and what she’s hearing doesn’t satisfy her, any more than it satisfies me. It is a slap in the face to the gay community at large, and to the so-called Christian community, by saying he couldn’t find anyone in that community who wasn’t a bigot.

I’m with you on this Mugsy—Warren is a slap in the face of every gay in America and any thinking person—his myopic view of religion in his saying that Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc cannot get into heaven is appalling to say the least. He’s nothing but another religious huckster in the same vein as Falwell and his ilk.

If she was listening she wouldn’t say he needs to explain it because she doesn’t understand. He has explained it, some of us agree, some don’t… but there is nothing for him left to explain.

Did you understand racism and just shut up about it?

Excuse me but I don’t have to “shut up” about anything. This is a blog and I am giving my opinion.

DeBurca, what I said was, I ASKED you if you heard racist comments and “shut up” about them. Obviously you shutting up about anything wouldn’t be an option. So, in your opinion is bigotry against gays all right with you? It’s a question.

I’m sorry for misunderstanding your sentance, but you have to admit the sentance wasn’t real clear. I already gave my opinion. My opinion is that I can understand if people disagree with Obama’s choice HOWEVER they cannot say he didn’t explain it, he did. Not agreeing with his explanation doesn’t mean he didn’t explain it. This actress insisting he needs to explain it in other words is her insisting he heeds to explain it in a way that she will agree. Well, she may never agree, but he explained it. THAT was my point. As far as my opinion, if you’ve ever read my posts you wouldn’t ask me if bigotry against gays is all right with me. Also, I don’t agree with Rick Warrens opinions. HOWEVER, I do understand Obama’s reasoning and I accept it and his reasons for making the choice.

TYPO: sentence… I forgot to go back and fix that, I always misspell that word.

Would you call Obama a bigot as well? Obama has stated very clearly that he is opposed to gay marriage. I don’t understand why people only hear what they want to. Obama has said that he believes marriage should be between one man and one woman only. His views are in line with Rick Warren, that’s why he’s fine with him saying a prayer for him. Also, I hope no one turns their back on a man praying to God at the innauguration. What does that say about them?

From: BarackObama.com “BARACK OBAMA’S SUPPORT FOR THE LGBT COMMUNITY” Promote LGBT Rights: Barack Obama supported legislation in the Illinois State Senate to prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation in housing and public accommodations. Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples: Barack Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples equal legal rights and privileges as married couples. Obama also believes we need to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions. These rights and benefits include the right to assist a loved one in times of emergency, the right to equal health insurance and other employment benefits, and property rights. Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage: Barack Obama voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2006 which would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmarried couples. “We are better than this. And we certainly owe the American people more than this. I know that this amendment will fail, and when it does, I hope we can start discussing issues and offering proposals that will actually improve the lives of most Americans.” (Barack Obama on the Senate floor regarding the Federal Marriage Amendment, June 5, 2006) You can read the whole pdf at: http://obama.3cdn.net/795174956a7f432e93_4iiemv52b.pdf
