Anne Hathaway Tackles Barack Obama, Rick Warren and 'Bride Wars' (Video)

Anne Hathaway has a new beau (actor Adam Shulman), a prospective Golden Globe and — unlike some young Hollywood dames — brains! Looking as glamorous as she did when she played a princess in her younger years, Hathaway talked to an E! news reporter on the red carpet and expressed her opinion about Rick Warren’s invite to President-elect Barack Obama’s Inauguration. Many wOwers agree with what she had to say.

"I expect him to explain that choice of Rick Warren," Hathaway said. "I don’t get it. All my friends and I were trying to figure it out, but we just can’t. So I’d love that. But other than that, I expect nothing but the best."

Watch:

Hathaway also appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" today. The ever-generous and helpful Ellen offered to set Anne up and asked her what she’s looking for in a man: "At this point I’d just like him to be law-abiding," Anne said with a smirk, referring, of course, to her conning ex. She contined: "Two thousand and eight was the year I learned how to have a sense of humor about everything." Between her candid humor on "Ellen" and the delightful "Bride Wars" — which also stars the adorable Kate Hudson, and one of our favorite actresses, Candice Bergen — we’re laughing along with you, Anne.

Watch a clip of today’s "Ellen" appearance here:

Why did black people say, “Oh, okay, we’ll accept that you think we’re subhuman and that we aren’t endowed with the same rights as everyone else.”? Oh, they didn’t? Oh, my. Well, guess what? I don’t give a flying rat’s ass WHO doesn’t get it that gay people are not going to stand for second-class citizenship. I don’t care how clear they are in stating their bigotry. I don’t care how many times they say it. I will not accept it. I am a full citizen of the United States, and I will not stop until the rest of you recognize that I have every right you have.

DeBurca, There may be nothing left to explain, to you. But obviously not everyone agrees with that assessment. In fact quite a large number of poeple are not satisfied with Obama’s explanation. It doesn’t mean they aren’t listening. it means they don’t feel what Obama has said, explains his choice. I have mixed feelings about what Obama has done. On the one hand, if this helps to facilitate actual equality for gay people, then that is good. But on it’s face, it is a difficult thing to accept at a difficult time. If Obama can not explain how this move, will in fact play a part in bringing equality to gays, then we will have to see if the action, bears fruit. Until that happens, I fully expect the gay community to continue to object to anything and everything, by which they feel disenfranchised. I believe it was ignorance, silence and lack of organization that allowed prop 8 to pass. I applaud and celebrate all actions that facilitate knowledge, noise and and cohesiveness on the part of the gay community and citizens for just laws and constitutional rights.. Homosexuals are woven intricately into the fabric of our society. They are not some special interest group or dissenting organization, who just aren’t listening right. I do not understand, as I might if I were gay. And I do not necessarily have the same take on the Warren event. But I recognize I am not the best judge of the situation. And I support without reservation my fellow citizens of “the gay” in their questions, objections, demands and outrage.

I disagree. He made his explanation. Not everyone agrees with his viewpoint, but that doesn’t mean he needs to keep repeating his explanation. Everyone will never agree on everything. He cannot change his explanation to make everyone agree with his choice. They either do or they don’t. People will have to decide if they disagree with him enough to support someone else in the future. Hopefully, they will weigh his administration in its entirety and make that decision.

You hear his explanation, as a sufficient explanation. That’s cool. But telling other people who did not accept it as a sufficient explanation, that they aren’t listening or that he doesn’t need to repeat himself over and over, is dismissive. People who don’t feel he explained his choice, should keep requiring a further explanation. Obama can take it. . I don’t if you realize it, but you’re post sounds like, ‘tough luck’, ‘like it or vote for somebody else’ . I find it impossible to believe that that is the way you feel.

Man I don’t know how many times I can say this… I am not telling ANYONE they should agree with him… but this idea that when you don’t agree with something you keep saying “he needs to explain”… NO, he doesn’t need to explain, he explained. Everyone has a right to agree or disagree with him on this but to keep saying he needs to explain is ridiculous. And yes, at the end of the day it comes down to making a decision as to whether or not you want to keep supporting someone.

As far as Prop 8 goes, I agree it was ignorance, silence and lack of organization on those against it. I’d add that the Prop itself probably confused some people who voted “yes” thinking it supported gay marriage AND those who were against gay marriage, mostly the churches, put tons of money into their campaign for Prop 8 and mislead people with fear mongering ads. I also don’t think this will be an issue because the Supreme Court will have to overrule it.

Ms. Anne is the one to watch. Since her mother, Kate McCauley, is a talented Broadway actor, and her role models, Meryl Streep and Julie Andrews, are real artists, I suspect she has set a high bar for herself. I totally loved what she said in Bride Magazine, that her favorite moment from a wedding was between her brother and his boyfriend, when her mother sang to them during the ceremony. She’s got her feet on the ground, this kid, and has talent to burn. Mazel tov!

First of all he has the right to choose he wants to participate in his inauguration. Secondly, he is Rick Warren’s president, too, no matter what Rick Warren said about the gays.

And I have the right to say, “Hey, I thought you were president of all of us, but obviously, slapping gays in the face isn’t so important to you, so fine, you think it’s okay to be bigoted toward us after gays stood behind civil rights for blacks for generations?”
