Anne Hathaway's Con Man Ex Gets 4 1/2 Years in Prison

Raffaello Follieri was sentenced Thursday to 4 ½ years in prison after pleading guilty to money laundering, wire fraud and conspiracy. The handsome con man swindled investors out of millions by telling them that he had ties with the Vatican and could hence score them great deals on church properties in the U.S.
"I made some terrible mistakes," Follieri said, reports the New York Daily News. "I just hope that someday those who have been hurt by my actions can forgive me."
Today the Daily News posted a photograph that Follieri reportedly flashed to business partners as evidence of his chummy Vatican connections. The photo looks like Follieri kneeling in front of Pope John Paul. A seemingly covered Anne Hathaway is standing behind him. The "Rachel Getting Married" star’s ex has reportedly been pleading for leniency with his sentencing — keeping his fingers crossed to receive a three-year sentence, the Daily News reports.
Follieri has expressed in the past that his schemes were out of character for him, an Italian native, who was raised in "in the heart of the holy Catholic Church." His lawyer has said in the past that he wasn’t thinking during his cons because he became "intoxicated" by the A-list lifestyle.
