Barack Hussein Obama Wins Historic Election; Will Become 44th President of The United States of America

A Dynamic Political Force Changes the Face and Race of Power in Washington and the World

Barack Hussein Obama has been elected to the office of President of the United States of America.

The junior Senator from Illinois swept the 2008 election with a majority of both the popular and electorial votes.  He won a solid victory against Arizona Senator and Viet Nam-era war hero John McCain, winning in both traditional Democratic states as well as states known as Republican strongholds.

A virtual unknown until his stirring keynote address at the 2004 Democratic Convention, the President-elect’s meteoric rise to the White House was fueled by a riveting personal style, a gift for stirring oratory and a commanding ability to deploy new technology to raise funds and organize supporters.

The election of the left-leaning Democrat marks significant demographic and cultural shifts among the American electorate.  He will become the first post-Baby Boom President, as well as the first bi-racial President.  Politically, his ascendancy will mark the end of the prolonged era of small-government and unregulated capitalism that’s been in power since the Reagan Revolution of 1980.

Yes, ML, DC will be a great place to be in the next week. Sister told me during one of our conversations that someone was letting lots of balloons go up in front of the White House and it was a huge joyful crowd at the big shopping mall, Tyson Corners.

You might not believe this…but I used to live in and out of Tyson’s Corners when It was a cowpath into northern Virginia…Don’t like that it has been paved over…but think that maybe they went blue….I’m really sorry about the Mitch thing…sure it wasn’t your fault…… Well..maybe Mitch won’t stand a chance in Congress now…and well he should not……. Charlie Rose….see it on re-run tomorrow….

Georgia, you ought to see it now. There are huge apartment complexes all around, and they have been renovating the whole area for the past 2 years. Quite different from when I first saw it about 30 years ago.

See your thirty and I’ll raise you the fifties…the McCarthy era.. And right down the road from TC is Bailey’s Crossroads that was a significant Civil War site that is also now just a name for a mall….paved over…… .Just hate the paving over of the planet … Just hoping you are an enlightened seller of real estate…….. Have you seen “The Estates At Osprey Cove” that is a strip MacMansion village that sits hardby the noise of I-64…..?That’s right off the exit at Shelbyville….. Show me the osprey. Show me the cove. Show me the estate.

Thank you! I am so pumped that in spite of a splitting headache and total exhaustion, I cannot sleep! In fact, I feel like I did in the hours just following the birth of each of my children! Exhausted beyond belief, very uncomfortable, but too full of adrenaline and excitement to go to sleep!

Diana/DeB- Two great articles. How Europe’s Obamania has restored America’s image: http://www.alternet.org/election08/106134/europe%27s_obamamania/ Great to Be Alive at Such a Promising Time: http://www.alternet.org/election08/106108/what_an_amazing_moment%21/

DeB, I really think we did…I know this: we are witnesses to a watershed moment in our nation’s history. I have a feeling that time will say this is when America decided to go back to being itself. When the number went over 270, parties erupted all over the world; that tells me that this is probably as important an election as F. Roosevelt or even A. Lincoln. When I review the years and events since 1960, it is like I have gone through a circle of history. Now, I hope we can get ourselves back on the right track. Our next project will be to study the various people that he will choose to help him lead this country. I am hoping that he will appoint Paul Volcker or Larry Summers to Treasury. And, Richard Holbrooke, Richard Lugar or Sam Nunn to Sec’y of State. Decisions, decisions…

I can’t stop smiling today… even when I am crying with joy. It feels good to be proud of this country again.
