Barack Hussein Obama Wins Historic Election; Will Become 44th President of The United States of America

A Dynamic Political Force Changes the Face and Race of Power in Washington and the World
By The Staff of wowOwow

Barack Hussein Obama has been elected to the office of President of the United States of America.

The junior Senator from Illinois swept the 2008 election with a majority of both the popular and electorial votes.  He won a solid victory against Arizona Senator and Viet Nam-era war hero John McCain, winning in both traditional Democratic states as well as states known as Republican strongholds.

A virtual unknown until his stirring keynote address at the 2004 Democratic Convention, the President-elect’s meteoric rise to the White House was fueled by a riveting personal style, a gift for stirring oratory and a commanding ability to deploy new technology to raise funds and organize supporters.

The election of the left-leaning Democrat marks significant demographic and cultural shifts among the American electorate.  He will become the first post-Baby Boom President, as well as the first bi-racial President.  Politically, his ascendancy will mark the end of the prolonged era of small-government and unregulated capitalism that’s been in power since the Reagan Revolution of 1980.

My pride in my country and in my fellow and sister Americans knows no bounds tonight. Along with my two African American children, my three Caucasian children, my racially mixed foster daughter, and myself, I am filled with joy and gratitude for the America I’ve always known was there, beneath the veneer of anger and accusations and fear. When we voted today, we chose wisely and well. President-Elect Barack Obama already carries the torch with dignity and humility. He will be a President for the ages. I, too, am grateful for the conversations we’ve been having here. Some have been so frustrating I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve shouted at the screen, but I’ve always learned from you wOwers…and I expect to keep on learning. Like all of us, I’m passionate about my beliefs and opinions, and I’ve had to remind myself more than once that I’m not alone in this respect. Our life experiences have colored each of our views. I hope that as both Senator McCain (who gave a wonderful speech) and President-Elect Obama expressed…we can be united, if not always in agreement, at least as Americans. It’s a memorable night. God Bless Us Every One.

Thank you, Frannie. I should have edited out “and myself” when I wrote last night, but it’s hard to edit properly when your eyes are filled with tears.

Hi Mo…did you get that book about B******T? I heard a linguist this weekend say that if we would just call “taxes” something else more palatable, like “memebership dues” ,we might have an easier time of it……linguistically…and maybe “really”…

Hi Georgia. Yes, the book arrived last week but I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet. (Too busy working on the Obama campaign!). I’ll find you here at wOw as soon as I’ve read it, so we can have a discussion! I don’t know about changing “taxes” to “membership dues” ….interesting thought. You sure the linguist wasn’t joking? mo

I thought of you, Maurine, as I watched Obama’s victory speech last night through tears, thinking of the possibilities for your children and my caucasian child, biracial son, and afrian-american daughter. So wonderful!!

Yes, Lorraine, I thought of you, too, and all of the other mothers in America who have children of color. We’re celebrating for our children, knowing that their opportunities are not limited, that those two beautiful girls who will grow up in the White House during the next eight years (yes, I’m counting on that!) are children like them. We can say, “Just look at Malia and Sasha. Look at their mom and dad. He is our President! This is America!” I am filled with such pride. Love to you and your family. Mo

Now, let us all join in and work together and make America the country that it once was. Obama is such a great man I know he will do us proud. It’s been worth all the phone calls I made, all the doors I knocked on and all the hands I shook at the polls. My feet and back are killing me but every ache and pain is worth having Obama elected as our next president. Obama, I pray that “toot” is smiling down on you. You have done her proud along with all your supporters. Congratulations you deserve this. Party hard now because once in office you have one heck of a mess to clean up!

I wanna know what EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD is thinking of us right now! I am more interested in what OTHER nations have to say about this truly progressive, monumental moment in America’s history! I truly hope they are as pleasantly surprised by the American people as I am!
