Barack Hussein Obama Wins Historic Election; Will Become 44th President of The United States of America

A Dynamic Political Force Changes the Face and Race of Power in Washington and the World

Barack Hussein Obama has been elected to the office of President of the United States of America.

The junior Senator from Illinois swept the 2008 election with a majority of both the popular and electorial votes.  He won a solid victory against Arizona Senator and Viet Nam-era war hero John McCain, winning in both traditional Democratic states as well as states known as Republican strongholds.

A virtual unknown until his stirring keynote address at the 2004 Democratic Convention, the President-elect’s meteoric rise to the White House was fueled by a riveting personal style, a gift for stirring oratory and a commanding ability to deploy new technology to raise funds and organize supporters.

The election of the left-leaning Democrat marks significant demographic and cultural shifts among the American electorate.  He will become the first post-Baby Boom President, as well as the first bi-racial President.  Politically, his ascendancy will mark the end of the prolonged era of small-government and unregulated capitalism that’s been in power since the Reagan Revolution of 1980.

I’m listening to news reports from Spain right now (my husband is from Barcelona and we catch the news there every night) and I am beaming with pride about what they are saying about our country and about our new President, he has infused a tremendous amount of optimism into the world, I am so happy.

DeB, I think this country just suffered through labor pains for 21 months and gave birth to itself again. Like the Phoenix, from the ashes we shall rise.

BTWCNN website has a nice perk—you can set up your very own ‘watch list’ of races or propositions that you want to keep track of. I just went to CNN and looked up the propositions—Prop 4 and 8 data, were available. Prop4 shows 52% No vs 48% Yes. Prop.8 shows 53% Yes vs. 47% NO. With only 37% of the total votes tallied.

DeBurca Congrats. Were you able to go to Grant Park? As I was watching, I was wondering.

No, I waited too long to respond to my e-vite and ended up on a waiting list. But my son was there which was such a thrill for him and I feel like my family was there with him in spirit! My daughter is a Theater major at DePaul University in Chicago and she had a play tonight and was disappointed she couldn’t watch the election coverage OR be at Grant Park for the rally. But, perfect for her… just as the cast was taking its bows at the end of the show, someone in the audience called out “Obama Won!”… and she said everyone in the place began to cheer and cry! What great memories my kids will have of this election.
