Barack Hussein Obama Wins Historic Election; Will Become 44th President of The United States of America

A Dynamic Political Force Changes the Face and Race of Power in Washington and the World
By The Staff of wowOwow
AP

Barack Hussein Obama has been elected to the office of President of the United States of America.

The junior Senator from Illinois swept the 2008 election with a majority of both the popular and electorial votes.  He won a solid victory against Arizona Senator and Viet Nam-era war hero John McCain, winning in both traditional Democratic states as well as states known as Republican strongholds.

A virtual unknown until his stirring keynote address at the 2004 Democratic Convention, the President-elect’s meteoric rise to the White House was fueled by a riveting personal style, a gift for stirring oratory and a commanding ability to deploy new technology to raise funds and organize supporters.

The election of the left-leaning Democrat marks significant demographic and cultural shifts among the American electorate.  He will become the first post-Baby Boom President, as well as the first bi-racial President.  Politically, his ascendancy will mark the end of the prolonged era of small-government and unregulated capitalism that’s been in power since the Reagan Revolution of 1980.

A case of post-election nerves sent stocks lower Wednesday as investors worried about recession began questioning what impact a Barack Obama presidency will have on business and the overall economy. The Dow Jones industrials dropped more than 300 points and the major indexes all fell more than 3 percent.” - Sara Lepro, AP Business Writer Okpulot Taha Choctaw Nation

Post-election nerves” aren’t the main factor in a stock market that’s been widely swinging for sometime and because of Bush policies; Today: “”I think what is happening in the market is a continuation of really the last few weeks,” said Subodh Kumar, global investment strategist at Subodh Kumar & Associates in Toronto. “The markets are still incorporating the slowdown in the global economy.” Worries about the financial sector intensified after Goldman Sachs Group Inc. began to notify about 3,200 employees globally that they have been lost their jobs as part of a broader plan to slash 10 percent of the investment bank’s work force, a person familiar with the situation said. The cuts were first reported last month. Goldman fell 8 percent, while other financial names like Citigroup Inc. fell 14 percent. Commodities stocks also fell after steelmaker ArcelorMittal said it would slash production because of weakening demand. Its stock plunged 21.5 percent. Although the market expected Obama to win the election, as the session wore on investors were clearly worrying about the weakness of the economy and pondered what the Obama administration might do to help it. Analysts said the market is already anxious about who Obama selects as the next Treasury Secretary, as well as who he picks for other Cabinet positions Analysts said investors were also uneasy in advance of the Labor Department’s October employment report, to be issued on Friday. Economists on average expect a 200,000 drop in payrolls, according to Thomson/IFR. Employers have been slashing jobs after a freeze-up in the credit markets crippled many companies’ ability to get financing. Late-day selling by hedge funds helped deepen the market’s losses during the last hour. More selling by the funds is expected to weigh on the market ahead of a Nov. 15 cutoff for shareholders to notify fund managers of their intent to cash out investments before year-end.”

I am keeping a historical journal of the Obama presidency. This will be made available on our family website. Beginning today, I am making daily entries of reactions and events from around our world. Today, day one, my first entry will be about stock markets crashing in reaction to the Obama election. Written before, I will hold Americans accountable for this election, good results or bad results. I am firm but fair. Whatever comes of the Obama presidency, Americans are accountable. Ditto Marva!!! One of our nation’s greatest economist (and a Nobel Prize winner) Paul Krugman wrote in his NYT column today that the ‘Monster years are over.’ Amen to that.

Suzanne…..and, I 2nd your AMEN!!!! I think I have been working and waiting for this day my whole life. I am joyful but honestly speechless now that it is here and feel that we are witnesses to a “new world” and the reset button has been pushed by people all over the globe. Those are my feelings and I am going to leave it at that. And, since you just brought it up…..I personally would like to see Paul Krugman appointed Sec. of the Treasury! If not him. then Buffett or Volcker. This will be Obama’s most ergent appointment. I now look forward to tomorrow knowing that our country will be lead by the best and the brightest through these turbulent times caused by a dimwit of the first order.

Agyness, I would love to see Paul Krugman Sec of Treasury too. Brilliant, hadn’t thought of it. “we are witnesses to a “new world” and the reset button has been pushed by people all over the globe.” Great way to characterize it. Howard Fineman was on tonight saying that for Obama the ultimate is brains and competence. We are in the best possible of hands after enduring the dimwit of the first order….so right.

To: Okpulot Taha When a glass is sitting on the table and is only half filled, I like to look at it positively, not negatively. I think of it as half full. Positive thoughts always generate more hope and results and are generally more beneficial than being negative. Many regular posters on this wow web site supported McCain as their candidate and I feel most have been most gracious by not stating negative comments and these same people probably accept the fact that we have a new president elect and he must be given a chance. Perhaps when you get a chance, you could set a glass on the table and look at it positively instead of negatively. Remember if you were eligible to vote, you are an American too, and are just as responsible and accountable as the rest of the American people. We are a single nation, under God, indivisable with liberty and justice for all…..our newly elected president included.

My word, Rainbow Power, while reading your article I easily see Mr. Rogers standing behind you singing, “It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood….” Besides, I do not drink from a glass; I am a savage Indian who squats then drinks from the stream of life. Rainbow Power, there is quite the difference between the two of us. My feet are firmly planted within Mother Earth while your mind is floating about amongst whimsical cottony clouds. I chase after reality and truth while you chase after rainbows and unicorns. I write of truth, you write of wishful thinking, Rainbow Power writes, “We are a single nation, under God, indivisable with liberty and justice for all…” I am sure when you wrote those words, you were standing in front of the Washington Monument while waving a large American flag highlighted by a sky full of Fourth of July fireworks. Yours is not my America. I am an American Indian. My vision is of reality and truth; my mind’s eye is not blinded by dazzle of wishful thinking. By-the-by, our stock markets are continuing to crash. How much is your 401(k) account worth on this beautiful Mr. Rogers day? Okpulot Taha Choctaw Nation

Besides, I do not drink from a glass; I am a savage Indian who squats then drinks from the stream of life.” And how is all this working for you? Honestly, you criticize so quickly about Rainbow Power dealing in non realities, what does your above metaphor conjure? You really think the stock market would be soaring had the election gone your way? I thought you were all for reality and truth. The truth of the matter is the stock market/our economy is going to take more than a little time to build back up again. And how much is my 401(k) account worth on this Mr. Rogers day? Why, I’m an old fashioned kid, I keep my money in my mattress or hidden in a hole somewhere. And I don’t drink out of glasses either. I drink out of Mason canning jars because they’re cheaper than glasses and serve several purposes. That said, I choose to see my Mason canning jar half full. I like to be hopeful. I and the rest of this country have already been through enough domestic terrorism for the past eight years. Now excuse me. I have to go out and put a bridle on my unicorn and go for a ride.

Majorie C comments, “I wish the stock market would get over it. It dropped even more today.” Yes, crashed day after the elections, crashed today, no telling what will happen tomorrow. However, I suspect some leveling off tomorrow; not as bad of downward movement, might even rally a tiny bit. Of course, part this crash is simply bad economic news coming out. Another important part of this is very few have faith Obama’s domestic economy plan will benefit America; a “tax and spend” policy during a serious recession, never works. In fact, Obama’s tax and spend policy is the same policy which caused the Great Depression which followed a serious recession just like today’s. Yesterday, some of this was profit taking on Tuesday’s rally, but not that much. I took some profits. More over, written before, savvy traders are dumping before Obama nearly doubles the capital gains tax. He could effect this for next fiscal year; this might be the last chance at the Bush 15% long term capital gains tax. McCain intended to lower capital gains tax to 7.5% which would cause a very significant stock market rally and a real property rally. No chance of this, now. Had McCain won, our family would be dumping hundreds of thousands of dollars into both stocks and real property. Now we are removing money from the markets or, at least, minimizing our tax exposure so Obama cannot take away our money to give to deadbeat Americans. Our markets, stock, real property and other markets, all are very complex and Obama is not totally at fault. I contribute about half of this crashing to the election of Obama; sharp traders know he will destroy our investment markets. Nonetheless, there are chances to profit in the markets if you work really hard at this. Challenge is keeping Obama’s greedy hand out of your pocketbook. Okpulot Taha Choctaw Nation
