Barack Hussein Obama Wins Historic Election; Will Become 44th President of The United States of America

A Dynamic Political Force Changes the Face and Race of Power in Washington and the World
By The Staff of wowOwow
AP

Barack Hussein Obama has been elected to the office of President of the United States of America.

The junior Senator from Illinois swept the 2008 election with a majority of both the popular and electorial votes.  He won a solid victory against Arizona Senator and Viet Nam-era war hero John McCain, winning in both traditional Democratic states as well as states known as Republican strongholds.

A virtual unknown until his stirring keynote address at the 2004 Democratic Convention, the President-elect’s meteoric rise to the White House was fueled by a riveting personal style, a gift for stirring oratory and a commanding ability to deploy new technology to raise funds and organize supporters.

The election of the left-leaning Democrat marks significant demographic and cultural shifts among the American electorate.  He will become the first post-Baby Boom President, as well as the first bi-racial President.  Politically, his ascendancy will mark the end of the prolonged era of small-government and unregulated capitalism that’s been in power since the Reagan Revolution of 1980.

I am sure that Sen. Obama (President Elect) will be a wonderful President, which is why I not only voted for him but volunteered for him since April, 2007! Yes, I have believed in this man for a long time. For me, this is not a racial issue, although I am aware of the historical status of this election and hope that it is a turning point for America. In fact, I believe his election is proof America has turned the corner on on race Note that TURNED THE CORNER is the operative phrase — I am not claiming that racism is eradicated — get real! People are PEOPLE — they are not SAINTS!!!! This is still a great new territory to be in!

With 65% of the popular vote in, Obama 51%, McCain 48% (3.9 million gap). Electoral college: Obama 338 votes, McCain 155. Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri and Montana too close to call.

I repeat: To all who have posted here with tireless determination to counter the slurs and the misinformation and the outright lies, please know that I deeply respect and appreciate all of you. My fellow Americans, this time we really worked for it, and got what we deserve! By ~ countrywoman ~ on 11/04/2008 11:41 pm

Countrywoman — if I am among those, I am honored; I am compelled to respond to the slurs, etc., though my retorts are not as informative as DeBurca’s comments or other’s. However, I agree that after the results of 2000 and 2004, the results of 2008 are well deserved!!!!! And I have volunteered at Obama for America since April 2007 and have countered the slurs here (as best as I could). Tonight we remember that there is no Blue America, no Red America, but only a United States of America!!!! God Bless America!!!

I feel that America has been occupied for 8 years by a horrific regieme and has just been set free. Incredibly great feeling…although sorry for so many who will be wounded by Prop 8…but that isn’t over and is owed to the money spent on misleading scare tactic ads.

Incredible…I said to my mom that thought we’d know at 8PM PST….she thought not. President Elect Obama will be speaking to the world at 9PM PST. This is overwhelming. Can’t wait to see all the world headlines tomorrow. Obama built a massive nationwide machine that can be put to excellent use.

I am so proud of the people for *finally* declaring that we don’t want bad treatment anymore—the time of presidents who resemble abusive parents is over for now!

I am so happy! Lots of work to do. McCain’s speech was the best I have ever heard him give. It was heartfelt and not at all nasty or sarcastic or self pitying. Obama’s speech is giving me chills, remembering Dr. King’s speech in Memphis and JFK’s inaugural speech. Wow. Thanks to all who have bravely offered their views here so that we could all be better informed. And I expecially want to thank everyone for all those links.

I would like to say that throughout these past months, with all the battling back and forth, the name-calling, the misplaced facts, and misplaced loyalties, wit and wisdom, endless postings of links to cogent comments, the personal reminiscenses, the mind-numbing interminable mud-rassling, and all, this dialogue on wOw has been one of the most fascinating political experiences of my life. Thank you each and every, and especially those I totally and will always disagree with. It has been invigorating, irritating, maddening, and inspirational, and I will never think back over this historic year without feeling a warmth and gratitude for the wonderful women of wOw — the women above the fold, yes, but more importantly, the posters.

Thank you Mugsy….well said. Let’s all try [me esp] to go forward in the spirit that our country deserves and the world needs. This is an amazing time and we are lucky to be alive in it. INCREDIBLE!!!!

Mugsy - There is little doubt that I am one of the those with whom you will always and totally disagree. The dialogue at wOw has not always been fair and the unfairness I will always attribute to the founders. They led the discussions and chose the topics of discussion and wrote the headlines. Yet, when there was discussion and not argument, the comments have been invigorating and, as you wrote, often complete with wit and wisdom. I congratulate the Democratic Party on their win. And, as I wrote previously, I wish President-Elect Obama much success. And I wish the wOw website continued success also…..even though I have some reservations. Yet meeting so many intelligent women from all around this country and some from abroad has been an opportunity I am very glad that I did not miss. Therefore, I join you, and agree with you ….for the most part…. with your comments on this Election Day 2008 regarding the women who have participated in the wOw discussions regarding this historical election. Be well, Mugsy.
