In case you missed it, three females and a transgender pregnant man made Barbara Walters’s "Ten Most Fascinating People of the Year" list, which aired last night on ABC. While dames didn’t constitute the majority, being over 40 did! Seven out of the ten headliners were people over the age of 40. Here’s the list:

1. Barack Obama, 47, First black president of the United States

2. Tom Cruise, 46, Actor

3. Sarah Palin, 44, Governor of Alaska/John McCain’s vice-presidential running mate

4. Frank Langella, 68, Actor

5. Thomas Beatie, 34, Pregnant "man"

6. Rush Limbaugh, 57, Conservative radio host

7. Tina Fey, 38, Actor, comedienne, writer, aka Sarah Palin impersonator for "SNL"

8. Miley Cyrus, 16, pop singer

9. Michael Phelps, 23, Olympic gold metalist

10. Will Smith, 40, actor

Tell us: Were these the "most fascinating" people in 2008 (c’mon, Will Smith)?

In your opinion, who else deserves the title?

I DVR “The View” everyday and watch them on the weekends. I’m looking forward to seeing what Barbara has to say about justifying this years list of most fascinating people, because I just don’t see it. Palin and Obama….yes. But Rush Limbaugh? Tom Cruise? Thomas Beatie? I’m sure she has her reasons, but I can think of 20 people that would be considered far more interesting and fascinating than those she chose. But then again no one is paying to hear what I think, she is the one making the big bucks! :-)

Define “fascinating” Barbara.

I beg to differ. I am sorry to see that Ms. Walters has set the bar so low.

I think Barbara Walters defines “fascinating” as anyone who will draw a large audience to her shows. It is often the lowest common denominator.

I think I agree with you, DeB. Heck, Miley Cyrus is too young to be “fascinating” to anybody except her parents and other 15 year old boys.

I know! Who could possibly have watched Barbara Walters to see Miley Cyrus?! I didn’t…. so I guess I missed the “fascinating” facts about her.

DeB, I don’t know where to post this lead editorial that was in our Sunday paper today. This is what is happening in the state of Kentucky, and all of the coal mining belt. I call it the Rape of Kentucky, and I’m not sure if these executive orders can be reversed by the new administration. But, I sure want this nation to be aware of what is going on with our environmental laws. http://www.kentucky.com/591/story/618623.html

so Ms. WaWa finds interest in some people—-who’s she going to ‘mesh’ with? Lisa Randal—-on ‘string-theory’—-sorta doubt it——‘string-cheese?’ doable—-she just picked people who ‘get-to-her’—-on her level—-at least no ‘guy-named-joe’.——-

Ok Will Smith, he is an awesome actor, one of my all time favs! I was shocked to hear the money that Rush L makes…Oh my Heavens. What else does he do other than give his opinions on the radio? For that amount of money! I got on the wrong bus!

Rush Limbaugh makes that kind of money because he delivers the message—propaganda for a certain segment.

Rush Limbaugh spreads hate and misinformation!!! He is a drug addict…. no different than any crack addict on the street and he is allowed to not only misinform and misdirect but to out and out LIE. I know he is in recovery, but he is and always will be an addict. Have you ever noticed that the term recovered or cured is never used. The only way to get rid of this absolutely horrible human being is to stop listening or rewarding him in anyway. I adore Barbara Walters but this was like feeding the seagulls off your balcony. Now you are just going to get bird *^&# on your ledge.

Lou, your response almost makes it worth him being on the list. What a perfect analogy.

Lou: You personally know someone that is a drug addict, or an alcoholic. Alcoholics are no different than any crack addict on the street. 46% of everyone over the age of 12 are current drinkers of alcohol. Many people you know drink alcohol regularly. I’m sure some abuse their spouses or children. This is happening on the street you live on tonight. I’ve never listened to Rush limbaugh, if he’s being offered 100 million dollars, he must be doing something right. Look at Obama, he is the Senator that gave your tax dollars to a child molester in Chicago. His wife worked with a suspected murderer. You know nothing about Obama, or politics. Just like these saps. http://howobamagotelected.com/

Frank, I am not going to address your ranting on Obama or my lack of political knowledge. It is not deserving. However, let me assure you that I am extremely knowledgeable on alcoholism and addiction. I have been both an abused child and spouse, so I am 100% qualified to discuss this subject. I have listened to Rush Limbaugh and I am qualified to discuss him also. His being offered large amounts of money has absolutely nothing to do with anything except his ability to sell air time. I reiterate he is an addict and his psychological issues make lots of money for his employers. I think of him as a great big monkey and his producers are the organ grinder.
