The wowOwow Beauty Shop Election Poll in the Swing States

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

wowOwow recently went to the heart and hair of the five toss-up states that The New York Times claims are in play in the presidential election by talking to a beautician at a beauty shop in each state. Our purely unscientific (and bizarre) poll also includes a list of issues that are important to each beautician, their shop and how they think the presidential candidates’ wives’ hair should be styled. With the map of the states on our wall, the cities were decided upon by a strictly unbiased dart throw.

OHIOMCAIN OR A THIRD PARTY

At the Korner Cut Styling Salon in the small town of Ada, OH, about an hour south of Toledo: The head stylist says her patrons are mostly voting for McCain. (She, herself, is hoping to see a third party on the ballot because her attorney told her there would be one.)

THE ISSUES: "Guns. We need to have our guns. Health insurance — the prices need to be lowered. Welfare and anyone who receives it should be drug tested. The deficit is awful. It’s gotta change. I haven’t seen much of Palin but I like her. I don’t like that other guy."

Cindy McCain’s hair: Up, down, curly or straight? "I don’t like that bleached hair."

Michelle Obama’s hair: Up, down, curly or straight? "Hell no. I don’t like that hairdo either."

NEVADAOBAMA

At Rumors Hair Salon in Reno, the receptionist there is collecting gossip that it’s all about Obama.

THE ISSUES: "This is an Obama shop. I think we’re just tired of the last administration, the war and how much it’s costing. Our shop is suffering right now from the whole economy. We’re down like 16 percent and our landlord here is horrible and she keeps raising our rent. So we’re actually going to move. Reno has really been hit hard because we have a high foreclosure rate. Times are tough right now here, especially when it comes to beauty. We’re all concerned about our jobs. As for Reno in general? On my block there’s one McCain sign and the rest of us tried to get Obama signs but they ran out."

Cindy McCain’s hair: Up, down, curly or straight? "Well I don’t like them so I don’t like her hair."

Michelle Obama’s hair: Up, down, curly or straight? "Wavy."

NORTH CAROLINAOBAMA

At Syd’s Hair Shop in Chapel Hill, hands and curlers down, the beauticians are voting for Obama.

THE ISSUES: "Pro-gay marriage, the environment and health insurance. I would say the majority of this whole town is leaning toward Barack Obama. If the other side happens to win we’re going to have to move to South America where it’s warm. We just need to get out of here."

Cindy McCain’s hair: Up, down, curly or straight? "Not memorable."

Michelle Obama’s hair: Up, down, curly or straight? "Down."

Probably the most accurate poll of all; I really believe in the dish from hairdressers. Disappointed to know Obama is only going to squeak in, though. Oh well; at least it alleviates my nightmares of President Palin!

What I know about The Southern Repigs will AMAZE all of you ….I know some very Rich Repigs in the South …from Tennessee to Texas …And all are snickering about voting for OBAMA …They are all voting in SECRET …for OBAMA …and they laugh …. I had a LARGE Dinner party in JULY @ my New home …I had Farmers …and Cow people and Computer People (4) and a Broker …and a TV News woman …and a GOV. worker and one Nurse …and all laughed and giggled when I asked the Big Question …right in the midst of dinner ….So who are ya all voting for …Then everyone looked so shocked ! And the laughing started and then serious set in …OBAMA everyone said ! And these are all WHITE People …former Repigs ….And they all told why they are voting for Obama …TAXES and Health Care ….and everyone is in FEAR of another Repig President …with another Repig in office our Fate is Sealed …and its not a good thing …I bet even Martha is voting Obama ….ROCK THE VOTE ! OBAMA !

Eliza Dud: Repig???? Is that another one of your cute little references? The more I read you the more I think you are really 7 years old. Those people you say are voting for BO, are rattling your cage sister. Everyone I know (a very wide range of people) are voting for McCain, but they also tell others that they are voting for BO. Kinda like the exit polls from the last election.. People said they had just voted for Kerry, but they really voted for Bush.

I live in Ohio, and it does depend on where in Ohio you live. In NW Ohio, Toledo would be solidly behind Obama, while some of the rural areas would probably be for McCain. My county is primarily Democratic in the east end, while the west end of the county is republican. I do have some friends who would normally be Republican that in this election might be closet Democrats - an interesting election.

Me too, Josie. First I thought, whoops, Josie’s washed her face and dyed her hair. But I think it’s really Joni Evans in rollers. Or maybe Shiela Nevins. Nobody gives anybody credit for anything on the web. heh-heheh,,,

Ms. Dee- I had to laugh and post when I saw the photo leading in to the story. Leave it to wowowow to make those of us in curlers feel at home.

Hi fearless art……Is your soft smudge eyeliner in the bottom of a drawer somewhere? How ‘bout them fake eyelashes? I heard that Louise Nevelson wore three pairs at once…..She wasn’t famous ‘til something like her late seventies….Bless her heart….and the promise of hope for us all.. I lost a message trying to go to your blog…..it was in ref to a mention about the teahouse in Hardy…I’m thinking it might be where you went on the Spring? I used to go there with friends from Memphis on the train to their cabin there…A bridge where brave bubbas could leap to impress the girls…That was in the late fifties so things must be greatly changed…I did learn how to canoe through the rapids…scared me witless….The roads were all red dirt…Is that the Hardy you’re speaking about? Hope you are well..Sorry they stole your evil twin’s avatar…..

Miss Mo, I am laughing with you because I checked my email and an alert from wowowow was there… a response was given … to this silly sight to see what’s up. I found another soul out there with curlers like mine..and…and…. I could not see her nose… she was peeking up and made me want to look. Darn those women in CURLERS!
