Will Bette Midler's 'Showgirl Must Go On' Tour Go On if Tickets Don't Sell?

Will The Showgirl Go On?

Bette Midler isn’t singing in the new year. A source told PerezHilton.com (the site owned by the king of Internet gossip, Perez Hilton) that Midler’s Las Vegas tour is opening to smaller crowds than anticipated.

"Between December 30th and January 4th, Midler performed five shows and only sold out one," a source told the website. "That’s embarrassing! All those shows should have been sold out. It was the holidays!" Hilton blames the economy, and we agree. In times like these, it seems something’s gotta give!

Midler’s Las Vegas extravaganza premiered last year at Caesars Palace, and according to Midler took off with "rave reviews and sold-out houses. "I couldn’t be more excited!" she wrote on her website. But then she adds, "If you haven’t been to Vegas to see me, hop a plane or steal a car but get your ass out here." Midler’s performance, called the "Showgirl Must Go On," needs people so the Showgirl can go on. Click here to support The Divine Miss M.

LOTV, Celine to me is “Ehh”, never quite got on the bandwagon, my husband though can’t STAND her, thinks she screams, not sings. We were in Vegas last year at a business meeting and saw Cirque du Soleil Beatles Love and it was the best thing I have ever seen. I was never a huge fan of Cirque because I didn’t like the euro-pop music they played, but this … OMG, as a child of the Beatles ( Paul’s birthday is the same as mine …. HUGE deal when I as in high School !!! ) I knew EVERY word to EVERY song and by the end when they finished with “all you need is love ” I was on my feet with tears streaming down my face, totally overwhelmed by the whole experience. Amazing ! So, If i get a chance to go back this year, my plan is to see Bette AND Beatles Love again !!

I don’t think people are in a mood for spending a lot of money for glitzy entertainment these days. Maybe once we get USED to living through the Second Great Depression, ticket sales will go up.
