STUDY: Women Coffee Drinkers May Face Décolletage Dilemma

The bad news: Coffee may shrink your breasts.
The good news: Coffee may shrink your breast-cancer risk.
These were the findings of a new study published in the British Journal of Cancer. Swedish scientists studied approximately 300 female coffee drinkers and found a link between coffee consumption and breast size. The UK’s Telegraph reports that, according to the study, women who drank more than three cups of coffee a day had breasts an average 17 percent smaller than those whose who drank less than three cups a day.
The lead study author Helena Jernstroem, an oncology researcher from Sweden’s Lund University, told The Local that the changes in women’s chest sizes may not be dramatic — it’s not like women will go from a busty Loni Anderson to a perky Demi Moore — but daily consumption over a period of time will "definitely" have an effect.
However, a daily java habit has its upside: The scientists found that daily caffeine intake may help reduce your breast-cancer risk, reports the Daily Mail. The scientists believe that the coffee’s effect on the body is related to its impact on the body’s estrogen levels. Past studies have shown a link between high estrogen levels and increased cancer risk in females.
The Mail reports that in this latest study, components in coffee could alter a woman’s metabolism and affect her estrogen hormones in such a way that it lowers their potential breast-cancer risk. However, just recently, a study involving 40,000 women concluded no overall link between caffeine and breast cancer.
