Sarah Palin's Daughter, Bristol, Gives Birth to Healthy Baby Boy

Sarah Palin is a grandmother.

Daughter Bristol, 18, gave birth to a bouncing baby boy on Saturday, People Magazine is reporting. The healthy 7 lb., 7 oz. baby is named Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston. He got his surname from hockey dad Levi Johnston, who has been dating Bristol for three years.

"We think it’s wonderful," Colleen Jones, the sister of Bristol’s grandmother Sally Heath, told People. "The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well. Everyone is excited."

News of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy broke after Sen. John McCain chose Palin as his running mate in the White House race. Johnston, also 18, was soon seen on the campaign trail with the Palins. Johnson said in October that he plans to marry his high-school sweetheart next year.

Palin’s office did not return phone messages Monday.

The Alaska governor, who has a newborn herself, told Access Hollywood last month that she would support her daughter.

"Bristol is a very strong young woman and she’s going to be just fine and a wonderful mom," Palin said.

"Bristol and I and the rest of the family know this is a team effort. And to be thrust like that into a spotlight on a national scene was perhaps an unfair shot to be taken. But really, if we don’t have thick enough skin at this time, as candidates, and I consider our whole family – this is a candidacy for all of us, we shouldn’t even be running for office. But we know it’s all going to be worth it in the end."

The all time name that takes the cake for me is “Void” as a first name. I asked how he got this name & he said his parents couldn’t decide…

I too wish them all the best for the baby’s sake. And I hope the Palins find a way to keep the baby out of the media rather than use him as a photo op.

Hey, Brooklyn, so much for keeping the baby out of the media glare. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/29/bristol-palin-baby-son-tr_n_154…

$300K for baby pics???? So much for wanting a normal life. I personally believe this couple likes the spotlight since they are part of the Brittany, etal generation. They see themselves as superstars instead of a young couple starting off a new life. I just hope that money goes into a college fund for the baby since these 2 do not seemed headed for college—and didn’t Daddy drop out of HS????

I am thinking that both of them are out of high school. And, brother had some issues; hence he is in the army. I’m not judgemental, I’m really not. I was married and with child to my high school sweetheart 46 yrs. ago. I’ve been there and know how it feels. But, for us back then, education was everything, and I was in university when it happened. I had never thought of the Britney generation thing; you have a valid point, I think.

Diana, Palin first words when this story broke was to respect the privacy of this couple. Well, not if it’s a moneymaker. I just think that having the father drop out of HS when there is now money and family support from the Palin side, it is really unnecessary. As a governor, Palin should encourage the best education not only for her family but for the young adults in her state. I am not happy with the example this young man is setting. At least finish high school.

Perhaps a good education isn’t a priority in Alaska? I mean, why would they at least not obtain a high school diploma? In the lower 48, even that doesn’t get a person very far.
