Sarah Palin's Daughter, Bristol, Gives Birth to Healthy Baby Boy

Sarah Palin is a grandmother.

Daughter Bristol, 18, gave birth to a bouncing baby boy on Saturday, People Magazine is reporting. The healthy 7 lb., 7 oz. baby is named Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston. He got his surname from hockey dad Levi Johnston, who has been dating Bristol for three years.

"We think it’s wonderful," Colleen Jones, the sister of Bristol’s grandmother Sally Heath, told People. "The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well. Everyone is excited."

News of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy broke after Sen. John McCain chose Palin as his running mate in the White House race. Johnston, also 18, was soon seen on the campaign trail with the Palins. Johnson said in October that he plans to marry his high-school sweetheart next year.

Palin’s office did not return phone messages Monday.

The Alaska governor, who has a newborn herself, told Access Hollywood last month that she would support her daughter.

"Bristol is a very strong young woman and she’s going to be just fine and a wonderful mom," Palin said.

"Bristol and I and the rest of the family know this is a team effort. And to be thrust like that into a spotlight on a national scene was perhaps an unfair shot to be taken. But really, if we don’t have thick enough skin at this time, as candidates, and I consider our whole family – this is a candidacy for all of us, we shouldn’t even be running for office. But we know it’s all going to be worth it in the end."

The birth of a baby is a glorious event. I wish them well! The road ahead for the parents will be difficult but no more difficult than it was for some of our mothers who married and had children at an early age. They will get through it. It serves no good purpose to make nasty comments about Lev’s mother’s problem. It has nothing to do with his choices. Hopefully she will get the help she needs and be a wonderful grandmother. Levi and Bristol are certainly “handsome” parents!!

Ok people are you really making fun of the baby’s name? Tripp…so what, its a name. I had a childhood friend whose name was Tripp. And if the parents want to name their children “different” names good…We have way too many Emma’s and Frank’s in the world as is…I chose my Grandmother’s name for my daughter b/c I know she will probably never come in contact with anyone else who has that name.

C, totally agree, Both my children have names like no other. They are constantly complimented on their beautiful names. While shopping with my Daughter, I’ve called her over to look at something I think she would love, and lo and behold, it never fails that someone in the vicinity will ask, What is her name? I’ll tell them and they think it is the most beautiful name. Two different women have commented that their daughters were expecting and they asked if I would write the name down for them, so they could show it to their daughters. It’s spelled different than it sounds, so I had to write out the phonics as well, LOL. I love unusual names, as they are the personal signature, one carries with them through life.

I have had many good things said about my daughter’s name and then I have had some “looks”…I dont care what people think. She is beuatiful and her name fits her perfectly. I am glad that your daughters also have “different” names. We truly have enough of the “lets copy Hollywood” on giving our children names. I mean on Friends when Rachel had her daughter and named her Emma, that name automatically shot up to the top of the girl name list…My cousin is one of them, her daughter is Emma…I just dont get it. Why do you want your child to be 1 of 10 in the school room w/ the same name? Happy New Year to you and your family. I am heading to the mountains of WV tomorrow to visit with my hubby’s family for New Years!

Merrell…You know I never bashed Sarah Palin but it did scare me if she would have been our VP. I mean that lady really didnt have a clue. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt thinking she would bring something new to the “old” Washington but then again just the thought of it scared me. For all we know Tripp could be a family name…

Isn’t there already a Tripp in the family? How about Trapp.. that’s probably how Levi feels at this point. Or maybe they can become the Billy Goats Gruff….Tripp, Trapp, over the bridge to nowhere. I know, I’m being sarcastic about this- sorry.

Dee T: How about Trapp.. that’s probably how Levi feels at this point. If Levi were inclinded, he would have moved on long ago. The Palins can easily afford to support a grandson, and they don’t strike me as the type to complain or make life miserable for Bristol because she brought a new life into the family.

The best to this young, handsome family. I hope we see more of them, although I understand and respect their feelings if we do not. Good luck to Grandma Sarah — Tripp and Trig will grow up together.
