Sarah Palin's Daughter, Bristol, Gives Birth to Healthy Baby Boy

Sarah Palin is a grandmother.

Daughter Bristol, 18, gave birth to a bouncing baby boy on Saturday, People Magazine is reporting. The healthy 7 lb., 7 oz. baby is named Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston. He got his surname from hockey dad Levi Johnston, who has been dating Bristol for three years.

"We think it’s wonderful," Colleen Jones, the sister of Bristol’s grandmother Sally Heath, told People. "The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well. Everyone is excited."

News of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy broke after Sen. John McCain chose Palin as his running mate in the White House race. Johnston, also 18, was soon seen on the campaign trail with the Palins. Johnson said in October that he plans to marry his high-school sweetheart next year.

Palin’s office did not return phone messages Monday.

The Alaska governor, who has a newborn herself, told Access Hollywood last month that she would support her daughter.

"Bristol is a very strong young woman and she’s going to be just fine and a wonderful mom," Palin said.

"Bristol and I and the rest of the family know this is a team effort. And to be thrust like that into a spotlight on a national scene was perhaps an unfair shot to be taken. But really, if we don’t have thick enough skin at this time, as candidates, and I consider our whole family – this is a candidacy for all of us, we shouldn’t even be running for office. But we know it’s all going to be worth it in the end."

De Burca, Happy New Year………I always enjoy your posts and find you a very intelligent woman with interesting views. If people on this site start calling each other names it’s a true sign of Rudeness. I thought we were all here to share our views………not asking other’s to always agree. I find it interesting to hear different views from everyone. Happy New Year to all………….

Thanks Dona! Once I’m called a name I write that person’s views off and rarely read further. Happy New Year!

And Tanya told us all she was a “liberal”! I guess the play writing doesn’t pay all the bills… Everone loves Deburca & her presence here is positive & ads a lot. The media bias WAS extreme—giving McCain a free ride & slamming Obama for every little thing—like days of musing over whether or not he is patriotic because of his lapel pin.

DeBúrca: …the Obamas… There is much written and known about the Obamas. Not all good. The MSM chooses to ignore most of it, that’s all. And believe me when I say that I’m just as happy that they do. He will soon be our President and the last thing we need to read every day is a lot of revelations about his political machinations. I believe the Obamas protect their kids as much as they can, but all the hoopla about a puppy, and changing schools… slightly overdone, but no harm done. Actually, I enjoy seeing the kids, they’re endearing and spontaneous, and cute as can be. The same can be said of Palin’s kids, particularly 7-year old Piper who upstages her mother at will. Bottom Line: Get over the Palins. They are not a threat to Obama, at least not in the short run.

When the Palins sell baby photos for $300,000 they are inviting everyone into their lives and unfortunately, into the baby’s life as well. Sarah Palin didn’t win the election and has turned into a celebrity and her children have turned into celebrities and now her grandchild. She’ll be in the media now until people get tired of her, or if she gets a show on FOX, longer.

DeBúrca: $300,000 As long as there is a market for photos of that baby, the Palins might continue to sell them. Countless people (Hollywood is full of them) have exploited their children by selling photos of them, lining them up for movie auditions, entering their photogenic children into photo contests, modeling sessions, etc. etc. And frankly, if someone would have given me $300,000 for a photo of my child, I would have sold that photo and my child would be none the worse for it today. Trust me, it’ll eventually stop. If you don’t approve of the baby’s photograph, avoid the magazines that publish it, that’s all.

Exactly “countless people have exploited their children by selling photos”… That was my point. It is exploitation and it also takes away any right these people have to say “stay away from us, we’re not celebrities”. Yes they are celebrities. Personally, I would never sell my children’s photos to any magazine for any amount of money. And believe me I could have used the $300,000.

DeBúrca: I would never sell my children’s photos to any magazine for any amount of money. Really ?? I wonder why. Most parents think their offspring, particularly the first one, is the most beautiful thing on earth. The child is endlessly photographed, and those photos are shown off and entered into “Most Beautiful Baby” contests ad nauseum. Now to get $300,000 to boot (as opposed to a week’s worth of free milk from the local dairy) is just about the sweetest thing I can think of. If nothing else, the Palins are small town, and that is their charm. If some nutcase wants to give them $300,000 for a photo op, who cares.

I would never exploit my children that way. I wouldn’t want to open them up to the public nor risk their safety.

Marjorie, the Palins are small minded. Add my name to the list of women who would NEVER exploit a child or grandchild by selling photographs for money. Smacks of pimping to me. DeBurqa, I’m on your side.

merrell: Had Sarah shown some backbone and stood up to the bigotry at her rallies,… Well, now that you mention it, did Obama ever, ever once ask the MSM to stop the sexism against Hillary? He profited by it, and he rode the wave. Did he know in his heart of hearts that the Clintons were not racists, but yet allowed that card to be played at will? It’s called politics. The truth is Obama and Palin are two sides of the same coin. They can both sway a crowd with their presence, they can suggest things without actually ever saying them to crowds who already believe what they are not saying. That can be a dangerous thing — remember Hitler? So here we stand: more than half the voters think Palin and all her family and would-be in-laws are a bums, and a little less than half the voters think Obama and all his associates are bums. I don’t know if we’ll ever get over it.
