Bristol Palin: Abstinence-Only Isn't 'Realistic' (Video)

Fox News

Sarah and Bristol Palin burned up the press this weekend.

First came a report on a new biography about Sarah, who last year ran for the vice presidency. The book, entitled Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin, delves into Palin’s political rise and, of course, her personal life, like how she knew of son Trig’s Down syndrome while she was pregnant, but kept it under wraps because she herself was unsure of how to handle a special needs pregnancy.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Bristol Palin, who had her own baby last December, gave her first interview to FOX News’s Greta Van Susteren this weekend. Much of the conversation, not surprisingly, revolved around the challenges of being a new mom.

"It’s not just the baby that’s hard. I’m not living for myself anymore," Palin says. But "I like being a mom. I love it … It is very challenging but so rewarding." She also said telling her parents about her pregnancy was "harder than labor."

"I couldn’t even say it, I was sick to my stomach," Palin says.

Both Bristol and Sarah Palin expressed skepticism about abstinence-only programs, which the Alaska governor supported when running for governor in 2006. "It sounds naive. Life happens," Sarah Palin said during a later interview with Van Susteren. "Truly, it can happen to anybody … Less than ideal circumstances but we make the most out of it."

"Everybody should be abstinent but it’s not realistic at all," added Bristol. "You should just wait ten years. It will be so much easier."

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin also had her own secret pregnancy for a while. A new biography of Palin — not authorized by the governor herself — says that her pregnancy with son Trig was almost discovered when one of her daughters found the prenatal ultrasound scan. Palin also knew Trig had Down syndrome but didn’t tell her other four kids until he was born on April 18.

"Not discussing the pregnancy with her daughters, she felt, would shorten the process and spare them from unwanted attention," according to Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin, by People Assistant Editor Lorenzo Benet, out today.

What she complained about was doing media stories with unknwn sources and without doing some research and repeating lies. Greta had the decency as a journalist to ask the people involved rather than rely on anti Palin blog sites for information ! Big Difference!

S.J. Greta truly likes Sarah Palin and Sarah truly likes and respects Greta, that is why Greta was given so many exclusive interveiws by Sarah and was choosen by Bristol to do her Interveiw. They both know that Greta would be completely fair.

Elaine, that is so true…there is so much respect between Greta and Sarah…all their interviews have been very good.  I love how Palin will be a threat to the libs now for the next four years…I’m lovin’ it!!

Libra Lady-

My opinion why Palin maybe a threat….

It’s like this Obama may become a Carter, just pay attention to the stats and start comparing.

And Palin may become a Reagan, just pay attention to her stats and start comparing.

People here where I live always wondered how there were so many Republican Presidents.  I was in a store one time and this lady was talking out loud to a friend wondering about this. Sure enough there were 4 of us standing in line with them and we all said "Carter" and the clerk said "Oh yeah…Carter…yeah he was a bad one."  Let me stress this was in an independent grocery market in the heart of a very hippie environment.

When I was a kid I liked Carter a great deal and he had heart, but man I can’t tell you the number of times my grandfather threw an empty beer can at the tv due to frustration because he voted for him!

Tanja…I think you are right about obama and Palin…I think she will be more like Reagan.  Right now, 2012 can’t get here fast enough…there are enough Americans up in arms now, that they won’t let this Country go down….not without a fight!!!

LL,

I think the same thing, Sarah will be identical to Reagan a no nonsense type of President. I just hope she will surely run in 2012.

I agree Tanja. Nobama is another Carter. Can anyone remember the ‘Crisis of Confidence’ speech? (I guess I’m showing my age) I think we’re in the same ‘perfect storm’ that Ronald Reagan found when he decided to run for POTUS. Conservatives just need to be prepared and stick together on core principles. Eliminate the quasi-conservatives, clean house, and start over.

"Nobama, Steve?  Seriously, it might lend the tiniest bit of credibility if you knew the correct spelling of our President’s name.

It’s O*B*A*M*A.

Your President, not mine.

Steve…thats jsut what I have said.  We need to have a real conservative party like what we had when Reagan was president.  If the present republican party can’t fix their problems, then we need a new party to replace it.  After all, the republican party came into being in 1854, because the Whig Party did not any longer represent what it once did.  The Democrat Party is next, even the the Libs do want to believe that.

It is very disrespectful as you say to use Obama’s daughters in the same light as Bristol Palin getting pregnant. Obama himself had said that her family were off limits during the campaign and for folks on here to say they want his daughters to end up the same way is so sick and sad. Sarah must take a lot of the blame here, she chose to take her kids around with her and showing off Bristol in her pregnant state, so she can’t have it both ways….especially when you are out there advocating abstinence and your own daughter ends up pregnant!! A little too much hypocrisy going on here.

SJ….isn’t it interesting how we are called out if we say anything negative about obama? But heaven forbid if we speak in favor of Gov. Palin….they want it both ways….cannot do!!!

SJ…..A poster on here said about Gov. Palin…..”since she has had two children already in trouble, then the rest of her children are doomed!” A remark from someone who doesn’t even have children or has ever been married….the poster is a good example of “sewage waste” in my book. Just sayin’!
