Bristol Palin: Abstinence-Only Isn't 'Realistic' (Video)

Fox News

Sarah and Bristol Palin burned up the press this weekend.

First came a report on a new biography about Sarah, who last year ran for the vice presidency. The book, entitled Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin, delves into Palin’s political rise and, of course, her personal life, like how she knew of son Trig’s Down syndrome while she was pregnant, but kept it under wraps because she herself was unsure of how to handle a special needs pregnancy.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Bristol Palin, who had her own baby last December, gave her first interview to FOX News’s Greta Van Susteren this weekend. Much of the conversation, not surprisingly, revolved around the challenges of being a new mom.

"It’s not just the baby that’s hard. I’m not living for myself anymore," Palin says. But "I like being a mom. I love it … It is very challenging but so rewarding." She also said telling her parents about her pregnancy was "harder than labor."

"I couldn’t even say it, I was sick to my stomach," Palin says.

Both Bristol and Sarah Palin expressed skepticism about abstinence-only programs, which the Alaska governor supported when running for governor in 2006. "It sounds naive. Life happens," Sarah Palin said during a later interview with Van Susteren. "Truly, it can happen to anybody … Less than ideal circumstances but we make the most out of it."

"Everybody should be abstinent but it’s not realistic at all," added Bristol. "You should just wait ten years. It will be so much easier."

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin also had her own secret pregnancy for a while. A new biography of Palin — not authorized by the governor herself — says that her pregnancy with son Trig was almost discovered when one of her daughters found the prenatal ultrasound scan. Palin also knew Trig had Down syndrome but didn’t tell her other four kids until he was born on April 18.

"Not discussing the pregnancy with her daughters, she felt, would shorten the process and spare them from unwanted attention," according to Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin, by People Assistant Editor Lorenzo Benet, out today.

A moose —Whoops forgot the glasses again!  Can I add this latest colorful description to the other 40+ we’ve heard?  I am quite amused that you would use the word "craw"— that’s so chicken yard!

Libra, she may enjoy visiting Mugsy’s website soon.   It’s literally a shrine to herself as a figure of awe and respect.   If you haven’t visited it yourself you should!

SJ….it is very disrespectful. I don’t know Gov Palin personally so I can’t say that I dislike her I can only say I do not agree with her political ideology. However, I would never wish harm on her children or grandchild the same in which some users on here have wished for Obama’s children. I think that is beyond evil and its ignorant..and furthermore it is simple minded. If you don’t like President Obama..then okay….but why have hate towards his children. What have they done??? The answer is nothing. Also, If you support Gov Palin I have no problem with that because I am a firm supporter for President Obama.I encourage a diverse and healthy dialog, what I do not support is disrespect and ignorance of any kind.

Well said DC, personally I think wishing harm or for bad things against any child speaks volumes to one’s character, and one can only hope people who voice such crap don’t have children themselves.

Palin has been disrespected for 6 months, Now that Obama is president, and has no idea what he’s doing, its time to trash him. If you don’t believe Palin was disrespected on this blog, go through the archives.

Actually, Alex, it’s far too painful to visit those horrid comments about the Governor of Alaska.   I don’t even think the ones who made those comments should go back and visit their own remarks.

Andromeda….My comment was a JOKE in reference to another post.  Obama represents everything that I dispise.  I would never bow down to him, if he were the last person on this earth.

What a BRILLIANT idea, LET"S TRASH THE PRESIDENT!  Another inspirational concept from the great American known here as Alex!  (or A H as some like to think of him)  This is such a PERFECT time to promote disunity.  Things are going SO well for everyone right now, we need our citizens to give their all to help make things as bad as possible.  What a clever constructive idea.  LET"S TRASH THE PRESIDENT!  That will really help Palin too, right?  Create LOTS of respect for her, right?  Now who in the world could argue with such impeccable logic!

Yes, A, you are the great communicator. A mediator above all mediators. Your comments bring harmony, unity, and understanding to everyone involved. We see now your wisdom. How could we be so blind as to the wisdom and unity that all of your previous posts promoted. We are truly, truly sorry. *snicker*

Steve —if the Moose" is truly "Suzanne" —"Carmel-by-the-sea" - Hollywood Starlett -Virgin Mary, etc. etc. —-plus others too numerous to mention — here are some of the "splendiferous",endearing, names she has called all Conservatives, Republicans and Independents on this website since early on.  Maybe we can find someone to write the music and we can make up a little song:

Flatlanders -Ignorant halfwits - Vulgar - icky hicks - drunks - dropouts - religious nut cakes - rednecks - knuckly draggers - dumb - right wing nut jobs - nazis -idiots -gullible -ill-informed -blind -scary -dumber than rocks -GOP airheads -trailer trash.

There are more I just haven’t had time to do more research.  Makes a nice little ditty! :)
