Candice Bergen: Barack Obama Has No Rhythm

Candice Bergen
The last time I danced was a few weeks ago with my handsome hub who is not a great dancer, but neither am I. What I love is the intimacy of it and the romance and the definite gender difference. And I like that he leads. What I love about the First Couple is that their attraction and their commitment to each other is so electric. They are totally focused on the other. Oblivious to hundreds of cameras and there is no self-consciousness or hint of performance. I also love that she makes a gesture to the crowd about his white side surfacing when he dances. Well, I am putting "the White Side" in but it is the singular white thing about him. The guy — whom we all love — has no rhythm.

After a long day of parades, speeches and entertainment all outside, no one has much rhythm. I was surprised they could stand up at all after 10 balls. How they managed to get up the next day so early and start all over again is beyond me. Stamina is such a nice thing to have.

I agree with you Candice. Mrs. Obama seems to embrace her femininity as much as President Obama embraces his masculinity. And the love is so refreshing. They are a lovely pair. I am looking forward to my guy looking at me that way:-)

You can’t beat that old fashioned hugging to music.

The night I fell in love with my husband was extrordinarly romantic because we danced barefoot on the carpet of my living room for hours to Linda Rondstat’s new album of big band songs. Dancing in public was not his thing but all he had to do was wrap his arms around me and move gently to her beautiful voice.
