Candice Bergen's Responsibility

Candice Bergen
I believe charitable giving is down 30 percent, but I am maintaining my same level of donations. Like everyone, I have kept an eye on my expenses but feel we must all keep our contributions up now especially.

Dear Candace Hi, I’m Michael from South Australia. I’m not sure if anyone on the forums remember me, I’ve not posted in a while because I’m embarrassed to admit I forgot my password and only just remembered it. I totally agree with you about the importance of doing all we can to help those less fortunate than us. I’m a writer for “Living Life…Boomer Style” magazine and one of the things I do as Music Editor are promoting and supporting musicians who are active in charitable works, and naturally I help do my part by buying the CDs and contributing to the charities that way. http://www.livinglifeboomerstyle.com/ Some of the artists I’ve helped recently include: Val Kilmer - Wildlife Centre, V-Day (to help against violence against women) Gretchen Peters - Room In The Inn (which benefits homeless people) Susan Cowsill - New Orleans Relief Fund (Hurricane Katrina victims) Beth Nielsen Chapman (healthychild.org) Gregory Michael (Children’s Hospital of Orange County) Adrienne Wilkinson (helps needy families with medical expenses) There’s more… It feels good to help others, and even though my contributions aren’t much at any one given time, I do make a conscious effort to keep an eye on projects which donate to worthy causes. Cheers, Michael

I just remembered one more, Susan Cowsill and other talented female musicians released and are promoting a charity CD called Congo’s Angels which raises money and awareness to help abused women in the Congo. I’ll post the links if I may so other people can have a chance to participate if the would like to. www.myspace.com/congosangels cdbaby.com/cd/congosangels Cheers, Michael

I agree Candice. There is a saying, but for the grace of God go I. And giving is not all monetary. Time is the hardest to give, but there are so many places that could use our time, too!!

I think it’s wonderful that celebrities are becoming more conscious about charitable works, but what really makes me happy is that they now include their fans in charitable projects. People who wish to do good but are unsure exactly how to go about it, or who don’t have much money but a lot of time to give as someone said earlier. It unifies and brings people together to engage in group projects like this. It shows that celebrities are people too (you guys know what I mean I hope) and that they’re not just donating for the sake of saying “I donated to such and such” as a grandstanding gesture, but they really want to help people get involved as a team.

With respect, I don’t think it is anybody’s business to expect to find out how much a celebrity donates to a charity. Their money is their own, their salary is not paid for by tax payers. It is distasteful to advertise how much or little someone donates. I agree with Candice - it is so important to maintain our donations where possible.

In a ideal world I would agree with Candice, but Candice is a very wealthy woman in her own right and is married to one of the wealthiest real-estate moguls in the world. Hello?????
