Candice Bergen: A Flying Fool

Candice Bergen
I am always flying. But very realistically. And it is very simple and easy. I just gently flap my arms and achieve liftoff. I can get about 15 to 20 feet of altitude. Just enough to flout it to people and be a general annoyance. I absolutely LOVE my flying dreams. They are pure bliss and I am always disappointed to wake up from them and realize how earthbound I am.

Candice, you are with the lucky ones. The flying dreams are not given to every one. Enjoy them.

That’s amazing! I’ve never had a flying dream before. But I have had a reoccurring weird mall show up in my dreams. There is a pool in the middle that is 20 feet deep and gold coins falling in it. On one side of the pool is a huge pillow and tassle shop, and on the other end is a food court with 70’s TV characters working there. I always laugh after encountering this dream.

I’ve only had one flying dream, and I was in the arms of this man I was dating at the time. We were flying over a railroad yard. I’d always heard flying dreams had something to say about a person’s sexual side. And even though the relationship with this man didn’t last, the sex was pretty phenomenal. And the dream felt great. So I’m convinced, at this point. And suddenly more envious than ever, Candice, that you can just “lift off” on your own whenever you want. Ha! What a woman!

Ms.Dee - That may be why all of my flying dreams are about the plane going down. I envy all of you flapping flyers!

The clip of Candice last night on Boston Legal was like a dream. Exquisite. It was a lovely tribute. When you all dream – do you envision yourselves as you are now – or in younger form? I always envision myself younger. I rode horses on our family farm and dream of that. Breeze in my hair, sweet smell of hay, warm sunshine. Young and strong.

I also have the flying dream. It is wonderful and the most fun I think I have ever had. What does it mean?

Hi Elaine. I have them, too. They’re wonderful. I read once that they are memories from infancy of being lifted up and held in the arms of one’s parents as they move about …

I have had flying dreams where I am actually flying, as well as flying dreams where I am flying a small plane.

In my twenties I was a flyer as well—it seemed like almost every night. My flights, however, were not pleasant. I never could control how high I would go—I was always grabbing at tree branches trying to keep myself from floating away into space. It was very tiring. Someone told me it meant that I had a fear of losing control. I’m happy to report that I don’t have those types of flying dreams anymore.

Wow - the “fear of losing control” could explain why I no longer HAVE my flying dreams (because when I did have them, they were lucid and the flying was easily controllable for me)… Come to think of it, ever since my bouts with Anxiety, I haven’t had a single lucid, controllable flying dream.

I used to have flying dreams all the time when I was younger. I could control it as well. I was a very “lucid” dreamer. I miss those days… *sigh*

I am SO envious of you flyers! As I drift off to sleep, I’ve tried to envision myself flying, but so far no luck. My daughter-in-law has had flying dreams ever since she was a child and she became a pilot, and later, an air traffic controller.

Maurine- I love your hat! I’m going to try that with my sleep.

Candace, First, I wish Boston Legal was not ending. I love that show. This week I watched it up until the part where my two favorites were in the room and being told about the Alzheimers, it was pretty rivoting. Just watching thier eyes, you could see where one was caught in the thoughts of who would take care of him, and the other of how he could do it. I couldn’t watch anymore, so I shut off the tv. I love the flying dreams. In some it is just a matter of jumping higher and higher. In another I was in a huge temple or some kind of building and this voice just kept prompting me. Finally I told the voice I was going to go outside and fly, and it just said “so be it”, so I went outside and when I tried to fly off the steps I fell into a rain puddle. One time on a Sunday afternoon, I was not asleep, just resting my eyes with the tv going, and I could see the crown of my head opening up and a hand reach inside and pull me out. Flew up through the ceilings in my old house until I was outside, and then higher and higher through the skies. After awhile I was brought back down and came back in through the crown of my head. Another time years ago, I wanted to see the flooding in Germany and all the sudden I could see my consciousness flying over Germany. Love to fly, might be why and adopted name I have is Wind Walker. Blessings, Linda
