Candice Bergen on the Twiggy, Rich Women in NYC and LA

Candice Bergen
Have you looked at young kids lately? Kids in their 20s weigh as much as a fig. They are all size 0. Not to mention women in NY or LA teetering around waiting to get blown away by a gust. And rich. Please. At least people feel for once that it’s in poor taste to flaunt it. But they have it.

What ever happened to “being yourself”? It must be a very insecure person who needs to hide behind their wallet. I think it will take some time for those who are insecure to drop their conspicuous comsumerism. I was recycling before it was “green” and grew up remembering the quote “to thine own self be true” - most of these people are afraid to find out who they REALLY are!

Well expressed sentiments Candice. So very true. Katherine, I agree with you though I don’t think many of these people would know the first thing about finding out who they really are, given they have constructed such a superficial life for themselves, based on their body size and their wealth - and have enjoyed the attention they receive.

Remember the graffiti they used to put on billboards around Manhattan that showed starving fashion models? The graffiti artists would write: “Feed Me!!!!!” Loved it!

I can’t imagine what they see in the mirror that they believe looks attractive.

These small women always complain about being cold - even here in warm L.A.- can’t be healthy not to have ANY body fat!
