In life, it is often a matter of pure luck. There are some places - face it - that you never tire of, provide escape, and are filled with such beauty that you somehow DO find “that other world”. We plan so far in advance — and as it happened, got plane tickets for this weekend (it may be 3 days instead of one but FEELS like one) before the prices zoomed. Where? The Canadian Rockies and a 3 day heli-hiking trip high in the mountains west of Banff. Seeing the world from a mountain top, having a ‘copter drop you for a medium-length hike where you may not see another person — but immerse yourself in pure snow-capped mountain scenery is to me a step into heaven each time. (Once you go, you are hooked!) Yes, far-thinking provided a very reasonable deal for maybe the last time . . but the bags are packed . . . and the living has just begun!!

I’ve learned it’s not so much where you go, but the company you keep that determines whether you’re having a good time.

I doubt that, James …. admit it, you’re a sensitive guy who appreciates the company of women; in my world, this is very refreshing!

That’s one of the nicest things someone has ever said to me. Thank you!

A PLACE WE GO TO IS ABOUT AN HOUR AND FORTY-FIVE MINUTES EAST OF OUR HOME. WE USE LESS THAN HALF A TANK OF GAS ROUNDTRIP SO IT IS NOT THAT MUCH OF A BURDEN. WE ARE NEAR THE BEACH AND ENJOY THE TIME WE SPEND THERE. IT IS EVERY BIT AS BEAUTIFUL AS ANY PLACE ON THE PLANET.

I have been so enjoying sitting in our garden with my honey. It has been the most perfect summer weather- no humidity, no bugs and trhe flowers have been beautiful. So content! I could be here forever.

HI Mary Lou, I think with the global warming changes that Michigan will become the garden spot with ideal weather taking over the lead from the current places of honor. Our winters are becoming more and more mild and this spring was fantastic! and the summer is heavenly. Maybe it is good our housing prices are so depressed forcing us to hang on to our real estate because one day it will be worth so much more. Stranger things have happened!!! ???

In some respects, it’s been the nicest spring/summer in Michigan I can ever recall. I mean, we’ve had a few humid days, but by and large, it’s been incredibly pleasant, especially for sleeping. I do like the 90-degree mucky days for swimming purposes, but that’s it. I have to get down to South Haven or St. Joe along Lake Michigan this summer. Would like to get up to Mackinac Island, too. Just getting back into condition after a harrowing ordeal in early June. Cheers.

HI James, I was planning a trip to South haven myself- but have to postpone due to too many commitments. It has been so beautiful here! Hope you are getting back in the swing of things soon.
