Store Fined for Nude Image of Carla Bruni

Don’t do this to Michelle Obama.
A clothing store in France has to pay 40,000 euros ($58,500 dollars) after featuring a naked image of France’s First Lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, on their shopping bags, BBC News reports. The white canvas bags feature a black-and-white reproduced photograph taken in 1993 by Michel Comte for an anti-AIDS campaign. The famous photo (click here to see the original) was auctioned ealier this year for $91,000 dollars.
The white canvas bags went on sale this month on the French island of Reunion, produced by local clothing firm Pardon. The caption reads, "Mon mec aurait du m’acheter du Pardon," or "My man should have bought it for me at Pardon." Bruni-Sarkozy’s lawyers argued the image was being used by Pardon without Bruni’s permission. They now say the damages will be given to charity, reports the BBC. Pardon says it will appeal.
Bruni-Sarkozy is a 40-year-old former supermodel. Earlier this year, she married French president Nicolas Sarkozy.
