Since starting the Caroline Kennedy Candidacy Watch, we’ve been bombarded with leads and alerts and asides and innuendo. Now that Obama is the nation’s president-elect, the current buzz is the conjecture that Obama might select Kennedy to be the ambassador to the United Nations.
But some Obama officials doubt Kennedy would take the UN post. Obama is indebted to the Kennedy family for a hearty endorsement at a crucial point in the Democratic primaries.
Kennedy’s name has also been bandied about as Secretary of Education.
Politico reports that another member of the Kennedy Clan — Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — may be tapped to head up the Environmental Protection Agency.
RFK Jr., a New York environmental lawyer, was among the only members of the Kennedy clan to back Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-NY, Obama in the primaries. The New York Post notes that RFK Jr. reportedly downplayed any level of interest.
But he told The Huffington Post that he would serve the next president if asked.
"You know what, I would be of service in any way that the administration asked me to be," Kennedy told the Huffington Post. "But I am also very happy and I believe I am being effective doing the stuff I am doing currently."
He added: "I haven’t had that discussion with anyone in my family about" joining the Obama administration.
