Caroline Kennedy's Future? Ask Peggy Rometo

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Joni Evans

We asked our wOw intuitive, Peggy Rometo, what she thought would happen to Caroline Kennedy’s bid for New York senator. Here’s what she said.

WOWOWOW: Gov. Paterson will be making a choice any day now on who will take up Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. Caroline Kennedy has made a pitch for it and so far has created controversy. How is Caroline feeling about the reactions?

PEGGY ROMETO: I feel Caroline may be exhibiting a little bit of nervousness to people around her. And she definitely feels as if her anxiety since making this public bid for the Senate has gotten more intense. I feel she wants something concrete for herself. It needs to be somewhere she can plant herself  and that she could make a difference. I think she would enjoy being a role model for her children and she really wants something more of substance — something she can sink her teeth into, instead of sort of floating. She’s done a lot of floating through the years – in part that was because of her children and needing to have a lot more flexibility. Now that they are older, she has a desire to go a little bit deeper for herself.

I’m also picking up a lot of confusion about whether or not she even wants this, because of the public’s opinion. She may be feeling anger because of  the judgment or the public’s opinion, and most likely feels they are off-base. I think she is a much more complicated and savvy woman than she gets credit for. It’s almost like she has two very strong opposing views. On one hand I feel she may have some regret here. Either about the way she broached this bid or doing it at all. She may even be thinking, “Why did I ever throw my hat in the ring?” She has seen her share of family members persecuted in the press. But there’s the whole, “We’re Kennedy’s. Of course we can toughen up” kind of thing. But that doesn’t mean that she wants to be in that energy every single day. So I almost feel like she’s looking for a way to save face by most respectfully declining, and I feel the only way that could be done is by having something that’s equivalent or better or more suited offered to her. It could be through the Obama administration, something like an ambassadorship. Something where she’s not so much in the public eye on a daily basis.

I feel like the family is trying to protect her, shield her from the direct spotlight of the public eye. The family is arguing and she’s responding, “No, this is where I live and this would be more convenient and a worthwhile position. So I feel like she is back and forth. It’s no small thing to fill Hillary Clinton’s shoes. Then there is the whole other side of her that is anxious, just as anyone might be: “Can I really do it? Am I going to constantly be compared to Hillary? She’s tough as nails and brilliant and smart … I have my own set of contributions, but it’s different than hers.” I don’t really feel she lacks political savvy. Her way is just a different way in which she approaches things, compared to Hillary.

This strikes me as a true power struggle between two royal families. How did America come to this where we are ruled by dynasties and “social classes”? I do not like Sara Palin but she just may be right about the class situation..

If Palin were right then McCain would have beat Obama.

Gov. Palin was right about the class situation. Peace. By Tanja Pineda on 01/14/2009 5:07 pm What is the class situation? You keep calling Sarah Palin “working class”. So are you saying to run for office a person must be “working class”?. Caroline Kennedy should be disqualified because of her family name and money? The news media printed and made fun of Carolines speech patterns as well as Sarah Palin. I don’t she what Sarah Palin is complaining about.

Starry you make me smile sometimes. Gov. Palin is working class just like I am working class. Most Americans ARE working class. If you work hard I respect that. New Yorkers work hard and I respect them. Kennedy never worked hard in her life….it is the way that she expects to be “handed” the Senator position (even though she was never elected in political office) because she is a Kennedy and THAT is why a lot of New Yorkers are vocal about her in my opinion. She has a law degree but never used it-that’s odd for some lawyers to grasp. She did volunteer which is great but how many work hours in her life time has she clocked in at age 51? I would be surprise if it was 5 years worth of working (getting paid) 40 hours a week. People would have more respect for her and get that she is “serious” if say she actually ran for office and got elected in. There are candidates in New York who are qualified and “live” in New York and they should be given credit for that.

Kennedy could have supported Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney. Maloney has the experience, endorsements from NOW and The Feminist Majority, received a Power Ranking of 57 for her ability to advance her legislative agenda and get legislation passed at Congress.org. If Maloney got the seat, her district would have opened up and Kennedy could have run for a more appropriate first office with the support of the Democratic Party. Instead a woman who hasn’t had any legislative experience, who hasn’t voted in almost half of the past 38 contested elections decided to use her name to leapfrog over the other candidates. Is it any surprise that Cuomo with a family name AND achievements in advancing the causes Kennedy claims to believe in has more support in his state?

K O’s, You are right on target here. Caroline should have had the grace and the smarts to recommend Maloney. And Cuomo is eminently qualified to say the least, but Caroline seems amibivalent and clueless.

It appears that Rometo feels a lot. It would be interesting to learn what the people she is speculating about are actually feeling. Sorry, but perhaps the word think would be a better word here.

LOL, you mean Rometo’s intuition lacks inspiration?

When it comes to predictions I would like a clear cut answer. There is always a way out if your predictions are wrong. Case in point, Sylvia Brown said that Gore would win the race. When Bush won she was quick to say : “I was right Gore won”. Now who could argue with that?

It’s simple. Anyone wanting to be NY Senator would be subjected to answering questions about their positions, and why they want the job and what they bring that’s special. She seems ambivalent, inarticulate, and angered at having to answer any hard questions. This is a power play for someone with no political experience or skill because of family ties ,and the wrath that will come if not accomodated. It’s disgusting. There are several really qualified women for this seat, and Cuomo is also an eminently qualified and articulate choice. Caroline clearly does not have the verbal or political skills necessary for representing this most important senate seat during a time of crisis for New York and our country. It’s a no brainer that she is totally unqualified for this job by temperament and experience, and her distaste for public communication is more than apparent. This is really not coming to her simply because she wants it and because the Kennedy’s have deemed it as a royal command.
