Caroline Kennedy Talks to Gov. Paterson About Taking Hillary's Seat

New York Gov. David Paterson has to decide who will take soon-to-be Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. Who does Paterson call? None other than … wOw’s gal Caroline Kennedy. ABC News reports that Gov. Paterson talked to Caroline Kennedy about the possible move:

A Democrat who would know tells ABC News that New York Gov. David Paterson has talked to Caroline Kennedy about taking the seat, which was once held by her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy. It’s not exactly shocking that Paterson would reach out to one of the most highly respected public figures in New York, but this is: Sources say Kennedy is considering it, and has not ruled out coming to Washington to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate.

We see why "Kennedy is considering it." Given Kennedy’s family legacy and their political clout — and all the tragedies she has endured — Caroline has a lot to think about. Is she reluctant to step into Clinton’s shoes? Recently, the famously private Kennedy propelled herself into the public eye as she campaigned for Barack Obama. She handled herself beautifully during these times, and we think she’ll be as great a senator as her uncle Ted.

Whoever Gov. Paterson chooses will have to run in a special election in 2010 to finish out the last two years of Clinton’s term. Kennedy has been a favorite to fill that seat and there have been reports that Kennedy is definitely "in the mix." It helps that Paterson is said to be favoring either a woman or a non-white candidate for the post.

Another dame two women’s groups want to see in Clinton’s senate seat is Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

Carmel, try not to suppose too much, I didn’t mention Vittner, Bush Cronies or Arnold or Palin - you did. Imposing such suppositions is as absurd as the analogy I provided about Silda. The only alternative name I posed was made in my original reply to this thread. It is equally absurd to to plead your observational selection of failures to bolster Ms. Kennedy’s qualifications.

J Mark—-The point is that you question CBK’s qualification to be a Senator…..and compared to many in the Senate….Vitter/Craig etc…she is infinitely more fit to serve. Your statement that she is not is what is absurd, particularly given the idiot piece of merde currently occupying the Oval Office….that a$$hole couldn’t tie Caroline Kennedy’s shoelaces.

I agree with you, Carmel. There are many ways to “pay one’s dues” beyond the old-boy’s Congressional system. And, as you pointed out, just as many ways to defile one’s office. The criteria for this century’s representatives will demand far more than time behind a particular desk. Like brains, knowledge and ethics for starters.

Carmel, I am sorry - that is not the point at all. The point is that there are others more qualified based upon experience and leadership skills. The point is that your comparisons of Ms. Kennedy to what you perceive as the dregs of politics does not serve Ms. Kennedy well. To just say she is better than Bush, or Palin is a poor comparative selection method. Given the base line of ineptitude you have provided for comparison - the pool of available candidates only increases. Try raising the bar a bit.

J. Mark: To just say she is better than Bush, or Palin is a poor comparative selection method. By now, you probably realize that Carmel (in all her various identities) blows smoke whenever someone gets the best of her. She will pummel George Bush and all other Republicans hoping to sidetrack the issue. It doesn’t have to make sense, just has to work as a distraction. Must say you’re doing well bringing the topic back to the forefront, however.

Caroline Kennedy would be a wonderful choice. She’s far more qualified than most. She knows how politics works from the inside & has many high ranking connections. People trust her. She’s smart & attractilve. Anyone who says different is being less than honest & has an axe to grind.

JM- “There are others more qualified based upon experience and leadership skills.” That depends on your opinion and what you rate as experience and leadership skills and in Congress selections have come from a wide and diverse field. Sonny Bono and then his widow? Caroline Kennedy has plenty enough experience and leadership and brains and decency. She is more than qualified for Congress and hopefully she’ll be offered and accept an appointment and then the people of NY can decide if they care to elect her should she decide to run to keep the seat. ‘Nuf said.

Caroline “earned” her seat when she had to grow up with no father becasue he died trying to stop the Vietnam war & stop the fraudulent Federal Reserve Banking system from charging citizens interest wfhen they print up our own money for free thru the Treasury.

Why are you so upset? A person does EARN an appointment. My first post was full of praise for Ms Kennedy, however, and I stand by this, I do not believe she would feel comfortable having this position handed to her. She has too much respect for public office to want to take a Senate appointment when there are others who have paid their dues for it. She has never run or served in public office and I don’t think her father’s assassination has anything to do with this subject. My personal opinion. I know my history, I understand what APPOINTMENT means, but It don’t understand why you are being so defensive.

My above post is directed to Lou Hoover (just so there is no confusion).

Lou: There you go with the condescending remarks. Couldn’t help yourself could you? You’re so much more intelligent than others. You don’t care about this country, all you do is put it down. Learn your Obama history. He socializes with known racists, and suspected murderers. Prove me wrong.

Frank, don’t question my patriotism. I love my country and I have a constitutional right, even perhaps a responsibility to question it’s leaders and policies. I do not think I am more intelligent than all others…. just some others. Now to the meat of your consternation. Barack Obama was elected president of the United States. As we are on the brink of a depression and are involved in two wars, all Americans had best be hoping that PE Obama will be the leader many in the world feel that he appears. So far as your remarks on racists, I am from Memphis, TN and I know a lot about racist. PE Obama is no racist. As for suspected murderers, if you are referring to Ayers, the government chose not prosecute for their own reasons. But following your own warped logic, should the entirety of Northwestern be replaced? Frank, he’s black….. get over it!
By Lou Hoover on 12/08/2008 4:00 pm
Frank Key
Lou: Why did you feel it was necessary to tell me Obama is black? Then to get over it? That was racist in itself, it also shows your stupidity. As for Ayers not being prosecuted. I was speaking of his wife Bernadine Dohrn. She is being investigated for the murder of a San Fransisco police officer killed in a bombing at a police station. His name was Brian McDonnell, here is his picture. Obama and Dohrn know each other well. This isn’t warped logic, this was someones son. If you want to question your leaders, start doing your homework on Obama. Maybe you’re afraid of what you’ll find?
