Caroline Kennedy Talks to Gov. Paterson About Taking Hillary's Seat

New York Gov. David Paterson has to decide who will take soon-to-be Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. Who does Paterson call? None other than … wOw’s gal Caroline Kennedy. ABC News reports that Gov. Paterson talked to Caroline Kennedy about the possible move:

A Democrat who would know tells ABC News that New York Gov. David Paterson has talked to Caroline Kennedy about taking the seat, which was once held by her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy. It’s not exactly shocking that Paterson would reach out to one of the most highly respected public figures in New York, but this is: Sources say Kennedy is considering it, and has not ruled out coming to Washington to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate.

We see why "Kennedy is considering it." Given Kennedy’s family legacy and their political clout — and all the tragedies she has endured — Caroline has a lot to think about. Is she reluctant to step into Clinton’s shoes? Recently, the famously private Kennedy propelled herself into the public eye as she campaigned for Barack Obama. She handled herself beautifully during these times, and we think she’ll be as great a senator as her uncle Ted.

Whoever Gov. Paterson chooses will have to run in a special election in 2010 to finish out the last two years of Clinton’s term. Kennedy has been a favorite to fill that seat and there have been reports that Kennedy is definitely "in the mix." It helps that Paterson is said to be favoring either a woman or a non-white candidate for the post.

Another dame two women’s groups want to see in Clinton’s senate seat is Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

I don’t see the qualifications. Just because she is smart (there are a lot of us smart women out here), has a famous name and has mingled with well known people does not qualify her to decide on legislation. Do you know her positions on anything? War, taxes, the economic recovery, welfare, healthcare, right to choose, medical marijuana, gay marriage. Where does she stand? What would she do for constituents in New York?

What are her “positions”? She’s a democrat, Barbara. No one has experience being a Senator until they are one.

No one has experience being a Senator until they are one. By Char Star on 12/08/2008 3:57 pm Oh you mean Just like the presidency I suppose, he’s a Democrat with no prior presidential experience. So which is it that you prefer…. The “No experience” or The “Democratic part”?

I think Caroline Kennedy is vastly more qualified for Junior Senator from New York than Sarah Palin is to be Governor of Alaska. And Palin was elected.

People here outside the NY area don’t know that she has been actively involved in the Bloomberg administration. This is not a dynasty doll. She is no Crystal Harrington. She is a bright womam, author, lawyer and extremely qualified for the office.

… then again … now that I think of it, Caroline does present a fine counterpoint in style and substance to the governor.

Caroline does present a fine counterpoint in style and substance to the governor [Palin]” Yes, a fine contrast indeed, like The Lady and The Tramp.

Carmel, etc. …a fine contrast indeed, like The Lady and The Tramp. Which one’s the tramp? Sorry, couldn’t resist. You can give us a two-page rant, now.

Hey, Carmel-by-the-Sea. Just wondering (really — no argument pending): Do you not approve of Gov Paterson? If you feel like elaborating, I’d like to hear why.
