Caroline Kennedy Talks to Gov. Paterson About Taking Hillary's Seat

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

New York Gov. David Paterson has to decide who will take soon-to-be Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. Who does Paterson call? None other than … wOw’s gal Caroline Kennedy. ABC News reports that Gov. Paterson talked to Caroline Kennedy about the possible move:

A Democrat who would know tells ABC News that New York Gov. David Paterson has talked to Caroline Kennedy about taking the seat, which was once held by her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy. It’s not exactly shocking that Paterson would reach out to one of the most highly respected public figures in New York, but this is: Sources say Kennedy is considering it, and has not ruled out coming to Washington to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate.

We see why "Kennedy is considering it." Given Kennedy’s family legacy and their political clout — and all the tragedies she has endured — Caroline has a lot to think about. Is she reluctant to step into Clinton’s shoes? Recently, the famously private Kennedy propelled herself into the public eye as she campaigned for Barack Obama. She handled herself beautifully during these times, and we think she’ll be as great a senator as her uncle Ted.

Whoever Gov. Paterson chooses will have to run in a special election in 2010 to finish out the last two years of Clinton’s term. Kennedy has been a favorite to fill that seat and there have been reports that Kennedy is definitely "in the mix." It helps that Paterson is said to be favoring either a woman or a non-white candidate for the post.

Another dame two women’s groups want to see in Clinton’s senate seat is Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

J Mark….the issue is whether Caroline Kennedy will be appointed by Gov. Patterson to the senate seat being left vacant by Clinton’s appointment as the Secretary of State. Being a senator vs. the Secretary of State are vastly different.

The issue I have is whether Caroline Kennedy *should* be appointed - as stated. I did not make any comparison between Senator and SOS, understand fully the duties of both and have no idea why you brought it up. If I answer the double post - do I have to say the same thing ;)

See what happens when you get older….you not only lose your eyesight, but you also lose your ability to read! Duh! :-) Sorry about that…just ignore me. P.S. I know….what’s up with the double entry. I honestly don’t know how that happened?

We can’t make this journey together by ignoring one another. Civil political dialog has baggage and stirs emotion. This country very much needs mature political dialog. I enjoyed corresponding with you. There’s an old adage that applies to politics as well as business, “When two people in business always agree - one is unnecessary”.

I believe this is a sad commentary on the nature of American politics and the American electorate.” J. Mark, that’s how LIFE is! Come friend, put aside your disillusionment and join us cynics. We are many, and every day gives us another new reason to cast our lofty ideals to the winds. :-D

Whew, Susan, that was a crafty reply. When I saw that quote I “anticipated” it was going to be used to say that the “sad commentary” related directly to Ms. Kennedy - completely out of context. A very cynical “anticipation” on my part followed by an invitation from you to join “us cynics”. Well done.

I saw where your inner idealist was being pulled to the surface by some of the posters’ more reverential responses. The Kennedys are a lightning rod for many, considered almost saintly by some. You were outgunned and outnumbered. I’m glad I was able to help you find your cynicism.

What “others” are more qualified, J Mark?

To J. Mark…about “celebrity enough” and “nature of…the American electorate”….Surely the list Barbara Walters deems most fascinating only reflects what she wants her “constituency” to hear…(her assumptions about “us”)…. I can’t believe they would be her heartfelt true personal choices….Long on funk and flash…short on everything else, for the most part…..Sad Commentary big time…..

Belinda, She is a lawyer, has written books on Constitutional issues, and among other things heads the Kennedy Center of Government at Harvard, the Profile in Courage Awards etc. She has been plenty involved in politics her entire life, cut her teeth on it, just not out in front. And from what I read tonight she is the one who suggested she be considered for the seat. So hope it happens.

Oh trust me Carmel, I agree with you. I may not have expressed my thoughts on this clearly….but I definitely agree with you about her experience and indeed qualifications to be a Senator. I didn’t realize she is the one that stepped up for the job, now that is interesting. This is so wild to watch unfold from someone who just doesn’t seem like she would have wanted this degree of public attention. I do believe I have underestimated Caroline. Shame on me. :-)

Belinda, My impression when met her at an event is that she is very decent, clear-minded and earnestly devoted to America and our Constitution. She has to be worth well over $400 million and is so down-to-Earth. Whatever she does is with a lot of brains, investigation and thought…she has tremendous will power but a very unassuming manner. Like you I think she’s just great…and hope this happens. Speaking of great, last night some friends and I rewatched “Waiting to Exhale.” Loved that film/the book and the pro-active step that author Terry McMillan [then, a school teacher] took by faxing every bookstore in the US a blurb prior to its release. But Angela Bassett is just so terrific. Love the scenes where she torches her husband’s suits and car, gets her long hair cut very short [I’m thinking no! horrors no! love long hair, but incredibly she looks even more gorgeous with short hair] and the last New Year’s Eve scene. I love her. Because she is also discrete like Caroline, many don’t know she has a Yale MA in fine arts…and she’s an Ambassador to UNICEF. So beautiful…and 50! What a lady.

I Love that movie Carmel, Love it! I think every woman should rent and see it just once. Its thread of messages about how we all look at love, sex and relationships transcends the race of the actresses in the film. And Angela….she is so beautiful! That body…I hate her. I agree with you 100% about her on a personal basis, from what I have seen and read about her she really is an understated and unassuming woman that is wildly accomplished. You can’t help but respect women who go through life unaffected by their successes or wealth. Never once having to list all that they own or have to prove a point that they are successful.

I think Caroline would be perfect. Maybe she’s entered a time in her life where she’s willing to be more extroverted and out there. Who knows. But politics has certainly gotten more interesting lately.
