Caroline Kennedy Talks to Gov. Paterson About Taking Hillary's Seat

New York Gov. David Paterson has to decide who will take soon-to-be Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. Who does Paterson call? None other than … wOw’s gal Caroline Kennedy. ABC News reports that Gov. Paterson talked to Caroline Kennedy about the possible move:

A Democrat who would know tells ABC News that New York Gov. David Paterson has talked to Caroline Kennedy about taking the seat, which was once held by her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy. It’s not exactly shocking that Paterson would reach out to one of the most highly respected public figures in New York, but this is: Sources say Kennedy is considering it, and has not ruled out coming to Washington to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate.

We see why "Kennedy is considering it." Given Kennedy’s family legacy and their political clout — and all the tragedies she has endured — Caroline has a lot to think about. Is she reluctant to step into Clinton’s shoes? Recently, the famously private Kennedy propelled herself into the public eye as she campaigned for Barack Obama. She handled herself beautifully during these times, and we think she’ll be as great a senator as her uncle Ted.

Whoever Gov. Paterson chooses will have to run in a special election in 2010 to finish out the last two years of Clinton’s term. Kennedy has been a favorite to fill that seat and there have been reports that Kennedy is definitely "in the mix." It helps that Paterson is said to be favoring either a woman or a non-white candidate for the post.

Another dame two women’s groups want to see in Clinton’s senate seat is Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

I think this would be terrific if she would be willing to do it. I don’t think the problem would be that she was not qualified. If anything, she is overqualified. She has written wonderful books about the law, she is a lawyer, she has chaired the Profiles in Courage awards and worked on the Kennedy Library. She has done more than most people who seek the office of Senator. In a way it would be perfect as it would replace a woman with a woman, and this time a true New Yorker, and it was the job that her brother once had his eye on before he was so cruelly taken from us by the sea. Besides, I just think she would be a brilliant Senator. Anyone who has heard the speeches she gives knows that she has a combination of both her parents’ finest qualities. I wonder if she would do it though; she has teenage children at home and might balk on their account. I hope she does do it; it would be wonderful to have another Senator Kennedy. I have always liked her, but I became a big fan when I read her books.

Andromeda—-Just FYI. WoW doesn’t review posts before they post, and they only remove those that are truly outrageous, they are not into over editing. So editing would not apply to any of yours. Although if they edit out a comment and yours appeared in a string of replies to it…those can get edited out too in the string. The site has become very much slowed down. It is really annoying and they are going to lose people for that reason. What probably happened is that your earlier comment ‘timed out’. And when they appear to post out of order it is because people post as a ‘comment’ [which goes to the end so that others posting simultaneously might post first] instead of a ‘reply’….so if intending to reply good idea to address it to that person. And sometimes comments post twice if people inadvertently hit the submit button more than once…which we all do. Hope that helps.

Carmel, etc. The site has become very much slowed down. This site has slowed down for reasons far beyond computer glitches. Read some of your posts. People drop in and within 3 days they are saying their good-byes. Pretty soon the five of you that are left will be talking to yourself and nodding in agreement.

BTW Marjorie, The growth of the site has been with progressives. Those who’ve left are those who lost their way from Freeper Nation, or from the little blogs you mentioned like “Uppity Women” an utterly dull gathering of sour types. http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com/ Here was their ‘brilliant’ post on Caroline Kennedy today: 1. She’s JFK’s daughter. 2. She asked Uncle Teddy if she could get into the family business. Uncle Teddy, staring his own mortality in the eye, wants to make sure that the name “Kennedy” remains a household word forever. 3. Uncle Ted hooks her up with Barack Obama. Suddenly, Barack Obama is just like JFK. Those of us who remember JFK know how ludicrous that really is. 4. Caroline was placed on the search for VP committee. She helped give us Joe Biden. That alone is enough to frighten anybody. A list of Caroline’s background and experience in politics, legislative ability and achievements for America, which suggest she has earned the position of Senator from New York follows: …. …. …. Wow, how that’s some earthshaking writing and thought. I wonder why is it that you persist in directing posts to me. I responded to you today as an exception that won’t be repeated, and can definitely see that “Uppity Women” would be much more sympatico for you. Not everyone has your POV, not even B. Nyce who is deleting you left and right. And I say that has been long overdue. HuffPo reference… If HuffPo is your ideal, then maybe you should post over there. …just won another round of $25M in funding. I don’t keep up with HuffPo because it is the ultimate in biased media. As for the funding, (earmarks?) I hope it’s not coming from the taxpayers pockets, but who knows… we have had a Democratic controlled congress for the pass two years. Anything is possible.

Char: Carmel posts many good things. I suppose she does… but she also posts a lot of questionable facts or half truths. The continual bashing of Republicans or anyone with an opposing view rankles my nerves. The vitriol is shocking. Whatever you think of the standing president, I really don’t think anyone has the right to tear him apart in such a disrespectful way. It’s almost treasonable. Almost half the country did not vote for Obama, thus we are all watching the game very closely. This is our country, too. Our lives. Our futures. We have the right to a voice. Now, if the founders of WoW want to make this site exclusively for liberal progressives (whatever that is), then they need to state their intentions.
