Caroline Kennedy Talks to Gov. Paterson About Taking Hillary's Seat

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

New York Gov. David Paterson has to decide who will take soon-to-be Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. Who does Paterson call? None other than … wOw’s gal Caroline Kennedy. ABC News reports that Gov. Paterson talked to Caroline Kennedy about the possible move:

A Democrat who would know tells ABC News that New York Gov. David Paterson has talked to Caroline Kennedy about taking the seat, which was once held by her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy. It’s not exactly shocking that Paterson would reach out to one of the most highly respected public figures in New York, but this is: Sources say Kennedy is considering it, and has not ruled out coming to Washington to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate.

We see why "Kennedy is considering it." Given Kennedy’s family legacy and their political clout — and all the tragedies she has endured — Caroline has a lot to think about. Is she reluctant to step into Clinton’s shoes? Recently, the famously private Kennedy propelled herself into the public eye as she campaigned for Barack Obama. She handled herself beautifully during these times, and we think she’ll be as great a senator as her uncle Ted.

Whoever Gov. Paterson chooses will have to run in a special election in 2010 to finish out the last two years of Clinton’s term. Kennedy has been a favorite to fill that seat and there have been reports that Kennedy is definitely "in the mix." It helps that Paterson is said to be favoring either a woman or a non-white candidate for the post.

Another dame two women’s groups want to see in Clinton’s senate seat is Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

Correction: …liberal progressives… The term seems to be Progressive Democrats. As opposed to regressive democrats, I guess.

Almost half the country did not vote for Obama, thus we are all watching the game very closely.” lol! You sound just like me eight and four years ago respectively, Marjorie! I think this is how it always goes with elections. I hope you’re right, that we’re ALL watching the game very closely. But those filters each of us wear makes it tough to see with real objectivity. I enjoy reading and challenging viewpoints that oppose my own, and hope more thoughtful, informed (and polite)posters from the conservative side will join Wowowow. Right now, though, you guys are clearly outnumbered. I must admit, I don’t have the cajones (nor the inclination) to participate in a right wing blog. I’ve tried, but was beat up pretty unmercifully. Nature of the beast, I guess. What I’m trying to say is, I understand how you feel, but complaining about it on the site will only incite more negative responses. If we all could just get the idea out of our heads that the “other side” of the opinion is our enemy … (I come in peace!)

Susan B: …hope more thoughtful, informed (and polite)posters from the conservative side will join… Unfortunately, polite doesn’t work. In this environment, polite is seen as weak. I agree with everything you say in this post, however. We are all coming from a different place. If we all could just get the idea out of our heads that the “other side” of the opinion is our enemy …. A double yes to that sentiment.

But see, Marjorie, that is exactly why progressives (& some Republicans also I must add) are disrespectful of Bush—because they know HE was disrespectful of his position as President, abused his powers, & committed many criminal acts that he will never be held accountable for—he totally dumped on us. Things you cannot undo—that we are stuck with. The deficit—9/11—shady dealings in both the 2000 & 2004 elections that made Bush president—the financial meltdown—the falling value of the dollar—the war—torture—spying—Katrina—the lies re Iraq—& most of all, setting back the environment & muffling govt scientists. When we lose the earth—we cannot eat & we’ll die. What are we going to say after the earth can’t grow food anymore? Well, a handful of rich men didn’t want to stop polluting & we could not MAKE them stop—so now the earth is barren? Why should a handful of rich white men ruin the earth for us all? If we are not sure the earth will be ruined, but only have some evidence & a hunch—does that mean we should forget about it & take that chance? Or wisely heed the warnings—just in case they are right? They don’t feel he deserves respect. Respect is earned. It’s because they do respect the presidency & love our country—that they despise what Bush & Cheney have done to it. We do not understand why conservatives believe Bush & Cheney are ok. It’s incredible to us that any thinking person could really believe Bush & Cheney are not criminals After all, an impeachment is just a trial in the Congress to see if they committed crimes. It sure looks like they did. Why not have a trial to find out? We can’t understand it because loyalty to party should not matter when there are crimes this serious. It should be America wanting to find out if the president committed crimes. Not just liberals wanting to find out. They committed them against YOU & against your children’s future too, you know. If it were Obama who had done all these things—I’d be all for an impeachment. Or Clinton. I really would. So, after A-L-L the things that have been done—-it’s VERY hard to believe Republicans & conservatives are being genuine if they are not angry at Bush & Cheney too & want them held accountable. Really. Half the country, as you say, did not vote for Bush

Char: …it’s VERY hard to believe Republicans & conservatives are being genuine if they are not angry at Bush & Cheney too & want them held accountable. To begin with, I am not Republican, so I voted for Kerry in the election previous to this one. Yes, I imagine the Republicans are as disappointed as the rest of us with the outcome of Bush’s administration, but I think you’ll see a new and better Republican party emerge from the ashes as a result. Michael Steele, a black man, might become the chairman or head of the RNC. A good start. Kinda like fighting fire with fire. Bottom line, we all benefit from a two-party system. I hope the Republicans pull it together so we have a clear choice in the next election.

Not so fast, Marjorie. First, on 12/7 at 7:57am, you said “Opposing views is (sic) what makes for interesting dialogue…” But then 8 1/2 hours later, at 4:29pm, you said “The continued bashing of Republicans or anyone with an opposing view rankles my nerves”. Make up your mind, which one is it? “Interesting dialogue” or “rankles your nerves”? Do you really mean that logic & factual evidence “rankle your nerves” cause you have no answer? Next, you keep saying you’re not Republican, but yet you’re arguing their points, know all about what the RNC is doing, & believe a “better Republican party will emerge” because some black guy may become head. Why? Copying the other party is not progress. It’s more dirty tricks. The Republican party will never be acceptable again until they make laws that further the interests of the poor & middle classes too & not JUST their own interests. They believe we have no rights at all besides serving their needs. Unless you make over $250,000 a year, you’re a shallow, manipulated fool to vote Republican because they have not made ONE—-not ONE law—that benefits anyone but the elite rich. If I’m lyin then NAME one. Go ahead. Name one law the Republicans passed in the last 12 yrs, when they’ve had majority most of the time or at least a Rep. president to veto, that helps the middle & lower classes—the people the rich have used & abused to make their wealth. You can’t, because THERE ARE NONE! The ENTIRE Republican strategy is to hide that fact from the middle & lower classes! Their entire strategy is to hide the fact that they only help the elite rich & trick the rest into voting for them I rest my case. Even the elite rich, like some in Hollywood for instance, abhor what Republicans have done because it’s not right. Further, you said, “I really don’t think anyone has the right to tear him (meaning a standing president, Bush in particular) apart in such a disrespectful way.” What—we should lay down & let him roll over us, like you seem to have done? Is that what a patriot does? Lay down like a rug when there is an assault on Democracy from our own govt? Did you know that Democracy is BASED on DISSENT? That’s what Democracy is all about—from the Boston tea party on down. We do not have a democracy without dissent when govt is doing what’s wrong. Otherwise, we’d be a dictatorship. (Bush has done his best to shove all the demonstrators blocks away from him to silence them, to arrest & taser them—the RNC even had police arrest the REPORTERS that were filming demonstrations OUTSIDE their convention facility. Reporters with clearly marked press passes around their necks were pushed to the ground & arrested. You didn’t see THAT on the mainstream news, did you? Reporters are the eyes & ears of the People. When reporters are silenced—democracy is shut down—like a third world banana republic. They let them go later—but they stopped them from reporting what was going on. That is WRONG in a Democracy! That is a new first & a new low for govt. suppression of the People, BTW. More thanks to George Bush) Too many people just want to ‘hit & run’, as I call it, for ego sake on blogs, & don’t really want to discuss issues. They run when the discussion gets meaty. Are YOU one of those, Marjorie?

Marjorie—-you like to sound off but when you’re called upon to answer for what you’ve said—-with your quotes & all—you blow it off because you have no answer. I don’t respect that. It shows you are here just to shoot your mouth off & then when you’re caught talking out of both sides of your mouth—you run & refukse to answer for what you’ve said. I don’t respect your mindless, pointless words—spread all over us here. Shallow fun for you only.

PS Andromeda, Others are also commenting on how slow the site has come and that creates a lot of ‘time outs’ etc.. From J. Mark on another thread, “…this site is so Flash and banner intensive the upload speeds are VERY slow. Maybe it’s the server, but whatever it is it needs looking into.”

If Caroline Kennedy wants the Senate seat vacated by HRC- she certainly has the background for it. Some people who are Kennedy bashers will protest - We know what her stand on many issues are. -She is a democrat. All things considered she well qualified- Is she the best candidate-? / I don’t know- I don’t know who the candidates are.

Caroline Kennedy is to many an icon. She represents America more than she does the Democratic Party, though she is certainly a loyal Democrat. I hesitate to see her in the Senate where the mud if often deep and gets splattered hither and thither. It would seem more appropriate, to me at least, that if she has decided that she desires to carry on the family tradition of doing some time on the federal payroll, then an ambassadorship or member of the Cabinet would be better suited for her. No one likes to see icons with political and partisan mud on their pants or skirts, as the case may be.

Caroline Kennedy is too brainy to let other people’s opinions impact her choices. As her mother said of her own occasionaly bad press “That river of sludge will go on and on and runs like a cartoon caption beneath my real life.” There is no shortage of idiots on the margins of American life…noone with any wits allows that to deter them.
