Change We Can Believe In? Loyal Clinton Sec'y Betty Currie Answers Phones for Obama

You would think that after being forced to testify five times before a grand jury about her boss’s relationship with Monica Lewinsky, Betty Currie would have had enough of politics.
But apparently she misses it.
Currie, the personal secretary to President Clinton, has come out of obscurity to answer the phones for Barack Obama during his transition to the White House. We’re not sure exactly what she’s doing, but transition team chief John Podesta, who was Clinton’s last White House chief of staff, said it was natural for him to call Currie back to service.
“Of course I asked her because in the 30 years we have worked together, I have never known anyone with more grace, dedication and public spirit than Betty,” Podesta told The New York Times. “And she has one mean Rolodex.”
Currie came out of retirement — living with her husband and Socks, the Clintons’ presidential cat — in southern Maryland to volunteer at Obama headquarters. The Times notes that she is widely admired in Clinton circles for her loyalty and effectiveness.
We all know politicians love loyalty.
Currie remained strong on the stand when being grilled by the special prosecutor about her boss’s dallying with a White House intern a decade ago. Currie used roundabout routes to sneak Lewinsky into the Oval Office, asked the Secret Service not to record the young intern’s visits, came in on weekends to let Lewinsky in to see the president and even waited outside the Oval Office study while Clinton and Lewinsky did their thing with cigars and whatever else. The debate was over whether she was innocent or an enabler.
One would think the churchgoing Currie had a hard time washing the grime off of her after all that. But perhaps she thinks that working for Obama can be a nice change of pace.
