Joni Evans

Dear Friends of wOw’s Change the World*:

Gosh. What a wealth of important ideas, insights and anecdotes you’ve given us. We have put together a blueprint and outline (below) in hopes of imposing a rational structure that harnesses your continued input. Our goal is to not only be heard, but to be effective – to change the world. We look forward to your feedback.

3. Mentoring (wOw calls it "WoMentorship")

4. Random Acts of Kindness

4. Spirit: The Universe, experiences, faith

BEST IDEAS TO CHANGE THE WORLD (AND HOW TO MAKE THEM HAPPEN)

Your essays, anecdotes, lists and videos

THE WOW EVOLUTIONARY

Nominate those (corporations or individuals) putting our planet forward.

(And while we’re at it) Nominate the “Devolutionaries” (frauds, companies) that defile our planet and move it backward.

XOXOX,
Joni

lifeforce for a change: we need, under the green category, simply “a green topic” such as ethanol from corn (starver of the world or energy independence for the usa?) in that i would choose starver of the world, since we export corn to so many places that are hungry, and their corn is going into ethanol plants when the weed clippings from interstates and maybe the cornstalks should be going there. what about hemp—a miracle crop not very productive of the hydrocannabinals so prized by marijuana users? keep local changers and add worldwide changers. in keeping with the female tradition, discuss green lifestyles (frances lappe’s diet for a small planet—vegetarian with recipes) and in memory of what the pope should be doing, tell our government to keep the living (already born) alive with policies that enhance food, clothing and shelter. as for people, the dalai lama is coming to ann arbor to discuss sustainability. perhaps there could be a sustainability corner that would discuss such forward looking topics as a sustainable economy. i await my sisters’ replies.

Great outline. I copied it off, pushed everything else aside and am on it.

I look forward to checking out this section of the site but please do not let it sink to the level of today’s posts on Bart and his wife. Some of us are looking to this site for actual content and depth. Perhaps this can be a corner of the site with some substance.

Joni, et al: Thank you for listening. Now we’re getting somewhere. Thumbs up. Especially like the hand position for invocation. For me, I prefer it say, All Things Earth or All Things Planet Friendly, rather than green. This new structure fosters greater coherence and starts to focus our energy into specific channels for change. Now a question about content, for example, Get Zenergized, will these be our recommendations or corporate sponsors?

Great subject, Joni. Thanx. I like “Random Acts of Kindness, but get so engrossed in my own life don’t perform those many simple acts that can help make people’s day. One of the things I am trying to do is tell my family members and friends the great things I think about them but rarely say. A couple of friends did that for me a short while ago in areas I didn’t think anybody noticed. Made me feel great. Was most helpful in the self-esteem department. I’m trying to expand that idea in all kinds of directions. There are two things troubling me in the “Change Our World” department. For one thing, as to global warming and what to do about it seems a bit in shambles to me right now. So many ideas, but what of those ideas are really going to get the job done. I see people who may have ulterior motives, like big companies and heavy duty environmentalists coming up with all kinds of ideas, many differing. What to do. I’d love to see my small county, Marin, in California put up a forrest of wind mills, it could be beautiful tucked away in one of our hilly areas, to provide us all with our energy sources and our Board of Supes are working on issues like that, but evidently the migratory birds have been getting hurt and killed by the windmills. Is there a way to solve this???? What to do?. Second thing that draws my attention is that we all seem terribly unrealistic about who and what the human creature is all about. Look around, Lordy, violence all over the place people starving in Third World countries because of power grabbing leadership, even in our own country — I count economic violence as serious mischief and boy ae we into it. Greed and “me, me, me” are rampant in this country In my view, we gave Enron and all the others “permission’ to behave the way they did. And we are giving unworkable, unhealthy ‘permissions’ in all kinds of arenas. We have to start saying — NOPE! Common sesnse has to be returned to the US, and we have to look at and understand that there are all kinds of ways to live, to shape countries, communities and people. Then respect those other ways. We got a few undesirable ideas and practices, ourselves, etc. A better world is a huge topic, a huge endeavor. In some ways, we have to start with our own country as do others, and ourselves. Everyone all over the world taking a sharp view of their ideas and behaviours with one of my favorite subjects — survival and how to do it on our planet — being recognized as a MUST. Mighty glad to hear Suzanne is on the topic. All will be well. :):):):)

Lily of the Valley, Live between two deserts that have windmills. The windmills are huge and do not always move slowly - the birds get sucked into wind pattern and the blades of the windmill bat them into oblivion. I have also noticed in the desert (Pear Blossom Highway) single homes that have windmills. They are smaller and I assume effective. I have heard that these people, when creating an excess of electricity can sell it back to the power company. There are a few companies around here that sell those to people with enough area to house one. They are not as threatening to the birds.

Thanks, Lily. I’ll pass that on. Although we have windmills nearby at the Town of Tracy and the birds are going straight in to doom. Understand this area is right on their migratory path and the winds and their habits are enough to be dangerous for them. But think you’re right and your points about the Golden Gate Bridge, etc. make sense. I have never made those connections so BIG thanx. There must be a way. While I care about the environmental et al and am willing to be of help, these are not the arenas I’m focusing on. Not really my with too many other places that need my attention, and I’m even trying to narrow those down. Seems you can only stuff so many things in the active, working being and still be effective — but I shore have trouble with that; drives me crazy; I’m much too curious about way too many things — thus get sidetracked and don’t accomplish the things I have to or those that matter most to me. YO DER!

Jenny, I noticed that too. Having been a designer can’t help but notice things like cut, color, balance, texture, proportion etc in everything. Like this site because very clean architectural look with lots of white space/field and red/black graphics, and ladies all in black. Unified/classic/cohesive. And the white jacket against background/black under blouse and just right size necklace with architecture haircut really worked. When things not pulled together distracts from message….but that really enchanced it. Just observation. I’m putting forward wording suggested the other day: ‘Power Of Wow.” Under each heading could be Power of Wow-Sustainability. Health, whatever. I think in the last 7 years culture has become so fractured, beaten down, about being less, about fixing it, etc, that need a title that is amplifying of the best with a energizing conotation that also underscores the BRAND. Also for merchandizing could at some point do things like the Tiffany heart bracelet with that as engraving. People need to be uplifted and esp in message. And to me Power of Wow really says what you want to be about. My 2 cents.

My 2 cents. Please, no ‘Power of Wow.’ There’s way too much of Eckhart Tolle floating around on the web since Oprah adopted him.

One thing I forgot to mention that I think is vitally important to ‘saving our planet’ is we have to start talking about “POPULATION”. It’s a big issue in the things we are concerned about, but almost no one is talking about it. Only person, besides me, so far I have heard bring it up is Ted Turner on Charlie Rose. Go Ted, GO! WE HAVE TO START TELLIN IT LIKE IT ISWHEREVERITIS! Especially if “IT” is something we don’t want to talk about — the several one million pound Gorillas on our planet.
