Cindy McCain: 'The View' Ladies 'Picked Our Bones Clean'

Cindy McCain took a swipe at “The View” over the weekend, saying the American people’s views and beliefs are not properly represented on those shows or in the media.

"In spite of what you see …in the newspapers, and on shows like ‘The View’ — I don’t know if any of you saw ‘The View’ yesterday, they picked our bones clean — in spite of what you see, that’s not what the American people are saying and what they are believing," McCain said during a Michigan fundraiser Saturday night, a recording of which was obtained by ABC News. “They are now seeing a clear difference with these candidates, and they are seeing who is going to make the best president, and that’s why we’re pulling ahead."

Republican White House hopeful Sen. John McCain of Arizona had a tough exchange with the hosts of “The View” during a recent appearance, during which he was pressed on the credentials of running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. One of the show’s co-hosts, Joy Behar, called claims in some of McCain’s campaign ads “lies,” and was grilled about how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own.

No hate, just a fact. That list was posted on HuffPo. What kool aid are you talking about? Does it matter that you are a Democrat? Not to me. I’ve been a Democrat all my life. I’ve voted for the party, not the individual because the party mostly reflects my values, whether I liked the candidate or not.

I watched part of the episode a few days ago and was glad to see somebody ask some questions that I personally was curious about. As an American I feel like somebody needs to ask these questions it is is our right as Americans for those seeking higher office to have to answer. To quote Amy Poehler playing Hillary the media needs to grow a pair or they can borrow hers. Barbara only did what many of us have watched her do in Interviews for years and I was glad that Elizabeth kept her mouth shut, she is not an experienced journalist like Barbara Walters or Diane Sawyer and many others.

So, it’s none of our business how many houses they have? Well, maybe not. But the fact that Mr. McCain did not even know how many houses he has certainly speaks volumes about Mr. McCain the person. His campaign has certainly found it relevent to continually talk about one aspect of his past (POW in the war). This is something that happened long ago. But it’s spoken of again and again. Why? Because it says something about him as a person. His character. Or maybe just his character long ago. It is a detail of his past that makes him look good. It is a detail that some might say… is personal. And others might not want to talk about just such a personal memory or detail. But, it seems that only those details of their lives that say good things about them as people are OK to talk about. The bad stuff… no we don’t want to talk about that… it’s personal. I don’t think the ladies on the view were hard on them at all. In fact, I wish they would have pressed a bit more on things. It seems they had the ability to ask some tough questions, but then would let Mr. McCain slide by without really answering. Like when Joy asked about the ads that had lies in them. He seemed to slither out of really answering that one. Both Mr. McCain and Sarah have been repeating some lies again and again, and it seems that no one has really been able to ask them, “why do you keep saying this?” Like the whole Bridge to nowhere line. Funny how Sarah took it out of her talk when she was in Alaska, but put it back in a few speaches since then. McCain has admitted that Obama wasn’t calling Sarah a pig. So why did he need to make such an issue out of it, and take focus off of the important issues? Does he think that it’s more important that the world talk about a stupid saying then educate people on the important issues, and getting to know this illusive candidate that they seem to want to keep away from the media. How irresponsible of him and his campaign people. When Charlie Gibson asked Sarah about the Bush Doctrine, why didn’t she just ask him what it meant? Anyone with a brain could tell what was coming out of her mouth was rehearsed lines. She clearly did not know what the Bush Doctrine is. I would have had more respect for her if she had admitted she hadn’t rehearsed an answer to that question, and didn’t quite know what it meant, instead of just going on and on trying to look like she knew about foreign policy and relations. PU-LEASE. Stop trying to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes here. If she were to become president, I would be hoping and praying that she would at least… BLINK! and for christs sake, THINK, before doing anything stupid. I’m with Amy Poehler on the SNL skit… the media needs to grow some balls. and quick. Before these people possibly get into office, before anyone realizes what a horrible mistake it would be.

When Sarah Palin became McCain’s VP pick, I signed on with the Anchorage Daily News (adn.com) to receive daily email updates. I’ve learned a lot about Sarah Palin just by reading articles from this newspaper. Today I received this, which I believe McCain said on the View: “Republican presidential candidate, John McCain, said his running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, hadn’t sought earmarks or special interest spending from Congress, presenting her as a fiscal conservative. But state records show Governor Palin has asked U.S. taxpayers to fund $453 million in specific Alaska projects over the past two years. These projects include more than $130 million dollars in federal funds that would benefit Alaska’s fishing industry and an additional $9 million to help Alaska oil companies. She has also sought $4.5 million tp upgrade an airport on a Bering Sea island that has a year-round population of less than 100”. So did she ask or didn’t she? Well, according to her own constituents, she asked for plenty. I will say one thing ~ McCain/Palin make a great team. Whatever one lies about, the other swears to it.

Sarah Palin has taken more in federal earmarks per person than any governor in the history of the planet.” McCaskill

I wish Senator Obama could use it, but when he calls them on their lies he’s said to be “playing dirty” while they just go their smut slinging unchecked. I would like to know though, why isn’t there an Obama ad detailing the facts and figures that prove she’s lying about fighting earmarks and big oil and why isn’t there one detailing the facts and figures of the differences in the two candidates’ tax plans that the Tax Policy Center has produced? I think, at least I hope, there are some people who would really be glad to have something real information rather than rhetoric. Then again, maybe he knows the people who care about those things are getting the info on their own and are on his team anyway.

I think Obama would do better to communicate, cadidly and precisely, how he will do things (spending, healthcare, war, peace) in the future, and not waste any more time talking about what either McCain or Palin have done in the past.

Good the free ride is over. Let’s get down to the Issues and lies and insinuations and coded language that has been thrown around by this party that need to be called out. All of this stuff DOES matter to me because it gets down to the core of a persons morals and values and how they are going to govern. And so far its not reflecting to well to me on the McCain’s and all those who try cover it up

in spite of what you see, that’s not what the American people are saying and what they are believing,” Really? I’m an American people and those questions are exactly what I and my friends (also American people) are saying? Cindy, are you calling me un-American? Are you calling my husban who spent 7 years in Vietnam un-American? If you can’t stand the heat, honey, get out of the kitchen.

We Need Obama/Biden
I really don’t know if the phrase “picked our bones clean” was a good thing for Mrs. McCain to say of her 72 year old husband but, more to the point, maybe we should focus on the fact that Senator McCain could be the president (God forbid), and they are whining about him being interrogated by a 76-year old woman— how sad! What Mrs. McCain should be saying is that Ms. Elisabeth (of The View) should apologize to Michelle Obama for her rude comments at Mrs. McCain’s convention dinner, since EH obviously isn’t going to do it. Why is it that Senator McCain only wants to campaign with Gov. Palin….does he really need to rely on women to fight his battles or is it the only way to get people to show up…as we now know they have been exaggerating the number of people “rallying”! All in all, it is a sad state of affairs for someone who could possibly be the LEADER of this great country.

Brenda- Totally agree with your comments!! I wonder why McCain never appears without Cindy or Palin? It looks so stupid sometimes, Cindy follows him around on stage like a shadow. Is it that he is not comfortable in his own skin or she wants to be in the spot light all the time. The thought of seeing these 2 for the next 4 years is so depressing. I had been one of the people disgusted with The View & Elizabeth, but Barbara has gotten some of my respect back for the questioning. I notice some of the other news outlets have been coming up with more substative questions, also. I just hope we are past the “pig & lipstick” ads and people will concentrate on the issues!!

Am I mistaken? Isn’t it the members of Congress who ask for earmarks, not the governor of a state.? So your Congressman or Senator can include earmarks if they choose to do so, on bills which have no relevence to the subject of earmark. There are millions of dollars attached to bills which primarily benefit the Congressmen or women in some way back in their own state. If ones Congressmen send earmarks whether a Governor asked for them or not, how many Governors send them back? I’d like to know how many Democrat Governors have refused to accept the earmarks sent to their state..how many and for how much? If we are going to hold Governor Palin accountable in this way, lets be fair, and hold them ALL accountable. It has been my observation that depending on who is doing the talking the same behaviors are seen differently, as described below. If Mr. Obama hesitates when answering a question, it is because he “is being thoughtful and considering the answer and all its ramifications”. He was a college Professor and thinks things through. If Mr. McCain or Mrs. Palin hesitates when answering a question it is because he is senile..or because she doesn’t know anything about the subject. Same situation, same behavior but different interpretations or spins. I hardly think Mr. McCain needs women to fight his battles. He is the ONLY candidate for President or Vice President who has actually fought in a real war where enemies are shooting guns or missles at you. He has the only experience in that category and he acquitted himself honorably. People are showing up to hear Sarah Palin because they like her. It looks like they may like her well enough to vote for her come November. As a very well known Democrat out here on the West Coast said about Mr. Palin, “she floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee”

First: You are mistaken, Governor’s of states also can ask for funding either by themselves or via the congressmen and senator’s that assist them. Palin hired a lobbyist to do this for her. She hired one to get funding for Wasilla when she was mayor as well. Second: McCain may be the only canidate that has been in the service and fought in a war, I also hold the National Defense Medal for Service during Viet Nam—this does not make me qualified to be President. As a veteran of the navy I will tell you that most navy vets have very little respect for McCain and his treatment of his wife and family (the first one that stood by him while he was a POW and he deserted), or his disrespect during his service for the military and its rules and regulations. As a “maverick” he was known to not pay enough attention to his superiors, follow their orders as told and even managed to crash a jet worth millions because he didn’t read the manual. Some potential commander in cheif! Third: People show up to see Palin because she is an oddity. Kind of like watching Jerry Springer on TV—there but for the grace of GOD go I. The Republican’s I know here in central Florida (about 2500) are planning to vote for Obama/Biden. They are working at our campaign offices.

Oops, left out a very important “s”. Speaking of Mrs. Palin. She floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee” A quote from Willie Brown in an article in the San Francisco Chronicle last week. Willie Brown was Democratic Speaker of the House in the California Legislature for years and has also been Mayor or San Francisco, a city that is about as liberal as it gets short of Europe.
