Clay Aiken: Yes, I'm Gay (People Magazine Cover)

After years of rumors and speculation about Clay Aiken’s sexual orientation, the "American Idol" star has come out of the closet — in a very public way. Clay Aiken confessed to People magazine that he is gay and poses on the October cover of People holding his newborn son, Parker, with the headline reading "Yes, I’m Gay." The issue comes out on newsstands Friday. Click here to see the cover.

Aiken, 29, said to People that it was becoming a new father that inspired him to be honest with himself and the public. Parker, born August 8, was conceived through in-vitro fertilization with the singer’s (female) best friend, record producer Jaymes Foster.

"I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things," Aiken told People. "I wasn’t raised that way, and I’m not going to raise a child to do that."

A spokesperson for the gay and lesbian equal-rights group, Family Equality Council agrees that Clay Aiken’s confession is the best thing for him and the child.

"Clay Aiken’s desire to raise a child in an open and honest manner will make his life, and his son’s, all the better," said Jennifer Chrisler, Executive Director of the Family Equality Council. "Much like Rosie O’Donnell, the announcement that Clay Aiken is gay reinforces a simple reality: The American public can no longer say it does not know a gay or lesbian parent."

Political correctness aside…..let’s be honest, even Stevie Wonder could see Clay Aiken is gay! I understand the argument that feminine voice on a man, feminine attributes and the fact a man NEVER admits to dating a women choosing instead to say “I don’t believe in discussing my personal life” is code for gay. But come on Clay, we all collectively knew you are gay, you weren’t fooling anyone. The sad part is you spent years perpetrating a fraud, denying yourself the ability to love whomever you choose openly and honestly, for what? Those who truly love your voice, love your voice. There is not a female over the age of 18 that even remotely sees you as a sex symbol or possible crush. Kudos to you for finally catching up with the rest of us in labeling you for exactly what you are…..GAY. It’s not a big deal, claim it.
