Clinton Considering Secretary Of State Position, Say Sources

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Senator Hillary Clinton this afternoon offered little comment on rumors that President-elect Obama asked her to be his Secretary of State, but may want to offer some more explanation.

Two top-level Democratic sources revealed to journalist Nico Pitney today that Mr. Obama did, in fact, offer Clinton the spot yesterday during their meeting in Chicago.

And Clinton, they say, asked Obama for a few days to consider his offer.

One of Senator Clinton’s aides also spoke out about the matter, but under the cloak of anonymity, of course.

Clinton, this person said, picked up key diplomatic skills while first lady and has garnered quite an international following: "She is a beloved figure around the world. She has visited over 80 countries, as first lady and senator together."

wOw! This has been one interesting day as far as The Cabinet goes… I wonder what must be going through her ind right now. I think it is a huge decision to make…I also wonder if it is wise to have her, out of the Senate..Tough tough stuff Being President or a part of the Administration. Health care and Education seem a good fit too! As well as The Supreme Court…What ever the outcome, I Hope and Pray that their thoughts are for what will best serve the Country and her people. What will be best for America and her position on the World Stage… But how about the John McCain factor now. Looks as if he may be a part of the cabinet too. Secretary of Defense? Homeland Security? What a bold and interesting move. I Hope and Pray that this too be a decision that serves us well. May the wounds of the race be forgiven and forgotten and WoW! What an Amazing thing it would be to just have the best of the best for the best interest of everyone…(Sorry for the use of Amazing for those that are tired of it use…It is simply the best feeling word that I know for what appears to be and here comes another one Awesome moment in my life.)

Hillary will be marvelous wherever she goes or whatever she decides to do. We need her right up there, visible! We the people need her, and the whole world needs to hear her speak. She is so important to this administration!

Will her selection affect anything that has to do with the problems facing America? NO!

I disagree, Lori, for this reason: Senator Clinton has seen stressful situations from start to resolution. Her knowledge of the foreign cultures with which she will be negotiating will create a’Trust by Association’ atmosphere, which will present America in the most favorit light we have enjoyed in the last 8 years. This weekend 20 countries willconvergr on DC to discuss the world economy………..we are global now. Senator Clinton understands that as well as the importance of a knowledge of cultures in their response to America. No on will be in isolation. Peace and grace

Clinton Considering Secretary of State Position? How can that be? She proved herself a liar during the campaign — remember the snipers on the tarmac? That will be our country’s credibility in negotiations with other countries? She threatened Iran: “I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president, we will attack Iran … we would be able to totally obliterate them” (link to source below). That will be our country’s voice against war, the voice of peace? [I think she’s a closet Republican.] This is the woman who even when she knew she could not win the nomination continued to try to bury Barack Obama. She will do everything she can do actualize Obama’s vision? No. She is a prima donna. That doesn’t make sense. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/04/clintons-iran-t.html

What doesn’t make sense? You are still at it, rocky. She is a wonderful woman and will be a fabulous Secretary of State, and you will still be at it. Just stop.

Mugsy — I agree - perfect for her! Now, all of you know I voted for McCain, but I think this is the first time I agree with the new cabinet for President Obama. She would be an excellent choice. I agree Mugsy — just stop ladies.

What doesn’t make sense? I think my position is clear enough. But for the sake of peace and not rehashing all that again, okay. I’ll give peace a chance and twiddle my thumbs while I watch incredulously.

And while you watch, you may well learn something about coalition politics and the simple fact that the most intense battles are often between those most closely aligned (c.f., Baghivad Gita), in families and in politics. Sen. Clinton, for example, couldn’t possibly have a good battle with Rush Limbaugh, because she simply couldn’t be bothered. But with Sen. Edwards, she could have a real pitched battle, because they are so close in policy, and this is something Sen. Obama understands and appreciates. No politician in the United States who is elected is all that clean, rocky rocky. It’s the nature of the system we’ve created and that is desperately in need of reclamation.

Your knowledge about such things is obviously deeper than mine. And I do appreciate you sharing it. But your explanation makes me wonder why Sen Lieberman, then, seems up for “punishment.” His actions and words seem to correspond to Sen Clinton’s.

Sadly, rocky rocky, politics seems to be about situation/moment-by-moment, etc. I have long thought we’ve lost the political compass. Sen. Lieberman’s “sin” for which he is “punished” is that he bailed on his “family.” There doesn’t seem to be a unit, i.e., family, army, country, church, soccer team, that doesn’t punish bailing on the group. Folks just don’t like it. And those one bails out to be a part of then never trust the newcomer. I suspect it is some sort of hard-wired human nature thing. Anyway, I wouldn’t bet on my knowledge being deeper than yours. Like everyone else, I’ve got my good days and my bad days, rocky squared.

It is fascinating nevertheless. Though I think I’m getting a little worn out by it all. Thank you for the give and take, Mugsy. Learning from each other is what I like best about this site. Your fan, R.
