Clinton Considering Secretary Of State Position, Say Sources

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Senator Hillary Clinton this afternoon offered little comment on rumors that President-elect Obama asked her to be his Secretary of State, but may want to offer some more explanation.

Two top-level Democratic sources revealed to journalist Nico Pitney today that Mr. Obama did, in fact, offer Clinton the spot yesterday during their meeting in Chicago.

And Clinton, they say, asked Obama for a few days to consider his offer.

One of Senator Clinton’s aides also spoke out about the matter, but under the cloak of anonymity, of course.

Clinton, this person said, picked up key diplomatic skills while first lady and has garnered quite an international following: "She is a beloved figure around the world. She has visited over 80 countries, as first lady and senator together."

I wonder how it works in their states as far as replacement of Senators. If one of those states would likely end up replacing their Democratic Senator with a Republican, then that person is off the list. Every state seems to have different rules about how replacements are handled.

Go for it Hillary! I think she’d make an excellent Secretary of State. A fitting successor to Condi Rice.

On the other hand, what’s she going to do with Bill!!!

Bill should be the Sec. of State. Obama’s team are just offering her the position because they want her out of the Senate. And as for following C. Rice and C. Powell … I hate to say it but each of them has demeaned the position in my view.

Bill is fine. Bill is busy trying to end AIDS globally, which the so-called greatly beloved Ronald Reagan refused research dollars for as governor of California because it was just a gay men’s problem. Oh, gee, thanks, Ronnie.

Hillary as Secretary of State makes perfect sense to me. I hope she agrees to do it. I posted about her a couple of weeks ago in my blog if anyone is interested. The post is entitled “Dare to Compete” and it has something to say to all of us, I think. www.susangabriel.com/blog

I hope she takes it - my first instinct when Obama chose Biden for VP -was - Hillary for SoS. She gets my vote!!

It’s a risk for Clinton. If she stays in the senate, she owns it. As Obama’s Sec. of State, she’d have to resign the senate, and he could remove her at any time and put her out of a job. Given their relationship - risky. For the nation, she would be a benefit. But Albright could do it too.

After reading the papers today nobody can say Obama’s talk of “change” was just talk. It looks like he is off and running and prepared to do exactly what he said he will do. He is going to surround himself in his cabinet with people from both parties as well as Clinton people. Just like Lincoln did with his cabinet Obama does not want a cabinet of “yes men” like Bush had for 8 years, he wants people who are the experts in their fields, people who will debate with him and give him different views and disagree. This is probably the biggest change we need right now with the crisis this country is in. I read that Obama is really great at knowing both his strengths and his weaknesses and will put people in place to fit in and help with both. THESE were the kinds of changes people most wanted and Obama offered.

While I am happy to see so many Clinton white house retreads in Obama’s administration. It brings to mind his anti-Clinton legacy campaign. apparently the whole big change thing was rather personal in tenor.

Having Clintonites in his administration is quite opposite of the way Bill Clinton ran his administration… which was comprised mostly of Clinton loyalists.
